COFFEYVILLE — Coffeyville city voters will be asked to go to the polls on Tuesday, Dec. 1, to consider increasing the city sales tax rate by one-half cent.

The sales tax, if approved, would be devoted solely to street improvements in the city. If the sales tax question is approved by city voters, the city street improvement sales tax would be collected starting on April 1, 2010.

COFFEYVILLE — City commissioners on Tuesday vehemently objected to the conduct of city commissioner Jim Taylor, Sr., concerning Taylor’s comments made about various city matters in letters to the editor in a Coffeyville newspaper.

One city commissioner, R.J. Warren, even went as far as asking Taylor to resign his seat from the commission, saying that Taylor’s continued comments have led to a disruption of city government.

“What we’re getting at is this: quit your lying,” Warren said to Taylor at Tuesday’s meeting. “That’s misconduct in office.”

COFFEYVILLE — A Kansas City developer came to Coffeyville on Tuesday to clear the air about plans to develop a low- to moderate-income apartment complex in the downtown business district.

Tuesday’s meeting, which was called by the Downtown Coffeyville, Inc., was not the first time that Gary Hassenflu of Garrison Properties in Kansas City had expressed plans for a downtown project. In fact, he has been working with City of Coffeyville officials for more than two years to get some type of housing project off the ground.

The Cherryvale City Council on Thursday (Oct. 8) unanimously voted to appoint Greg McDanel as the city administrator. The selection comes after an extensive search process that reviewed 20 applications, interviewed seven semi-finalists and narrowed the field down to three finalists.
McDanel comes to Cherryvale from the City of Independence, Mo., where he served a versatile role in the Public Works Department. While in Independence he provided administrative oversight for employees and contract services in land acquisition for capital improvement projects. He also provided leadership in obtaining economic stimulus grants and federal transportation funding.
His credentials include a bachelor of science degree in geography from Northwest Missouri State University and a master of public administration degree from the University of Missouri-Kansas City with an urban administration emphasis. He is a member of the International City/County Management Association (ICMA) and a past member of the Missouri City/County Management Association (MCMA). McDanel is also a Graduate of the Mid-America Regional Council Academy for Local Government Executives and an active volunteer in the community.
