Drug investigation yields arrest of Independence man

BY ANDY TAYLOR

An Independence man was arrested Wednesday in a drug sting planned by the Independence and Coffeyville police departments as well as the Montgomery County Sheriff’s Department.

Sheriff Robert Dierks said two drug-related search warrants were executed on Wednesday, Oct. 21 in Coffeyville. As the investigation progressed, the sheriff’s department and Coffeyville Police Department arranged a controlled delivery of narcotics to a location in Coffeyville. This resulted in the arrest of Marlon Burnett of Independence.

A search warrant executed at Burnett’s home in Independence also found drug-related paraphernalia and narcotics.

Burnett remains in custody with multiple drug-related charges expected to be filed by the Montgomery County Attorney.

Dierks said the cooperation between the three law enforcement agencies allowed the surveillance, investigation and arrests to happen without incident.

Additional arrests and/or charges may occur as the investigation continues, Dierks said.
