INDEPENDENCE — Students who have behavior control issues will soon learn why dogs are considered man’s best friend.

The SEK Academy in Independence will incorporate a canine into the school setting as a source of behavioral control. A trained canine that recognizes agitation will intervene when tempers flare among students.

The Kansas Department of Health and Environment (KDHE) has issued an Emergency Order of Suspension against Independence Day Care Center Inc., a licensed child care center operated by Independence Day Care Center Inc., located at 200 Arco Place, Box 742, Independence.

State law allows the Secretary of KDHE to issue such an order when, in the opinion of the Secretary, the order is necessary to protect children in the home from any potential threat to health or safety.

The order is subject to appeal to the Secretary.
