Preparations are underway for the 2009 Caney Valley High School Fall Homecoming Week to be celebrated next week, Monday, Sept. 28, through Friday, Oct. 2.
CVHS students will dress in different attire each day next week to bolster spirit for homecoming: Monday will be Crazy Accessory/Crazy Hair Day; Tuesday, Favorite Sports Team Day; Wednesday, Super Hero Day; Thursday, Fake Injury Day and Friday, Bullpup Apparel Day.
On Thursday evening a homecoming parade will be held in downtown Caney at 8 p.m. followed by a bonfire/pep rally at the CVHS east upper parking area. Classes will enter floats in the parade and the general public is invited to also put a float or entry in the parade, said Julie Lockwood, CVHS Counselor and Stuco advisor.
The week will culminate on Friday evening with the coronation of the 2009 CVHS Fall Homecoming Queen and King with the ceremony held at the CVHS Stadium at 6 p.m. Vying for the queen title are seniors Paige Chaffin, Dusti Doub, Evelin Palacios, Brooke Smith and Amelia Timmerman. Senior king candidates are Matt Barlow, Luke DeWitt, Aaron Elliott, Gable LaForge and Brycen Thornton.
The CVHS Bullpups will take on the Humboldt Cubs in varsity football action with the game starting at 7 p.m.
The Bullpup Booster Club is commemorating the 70th anniversary of the CVHS Stadium that night by inviting any former Caney High School/Caney Valley High School football player to attend the game. They will get into the game with free admission and be recognized that evening.

In observance of the 70th anniversary of the Caney Valley High School Stadium, the Bullpup Booster Club and USD 436 will salute all former Caney High School and Caney Valley High School football players next Friday night, Oct. 2, at the halftime of the Caney Valley/Humboldt football game.
Not only will it be homecoming night for Caney Valley football fans but also a night of memories for all former Bullpup football players, who will be admitted free to the game. A table will be set up at the admission gate to record the names of all former players and coaches. The former players and coaches will then be saluted during the halftime of the game.
Also during the festivities, surviving members of the 1939-40 Caney High School football team will also be honored. There are three surviving members of that team, including Bud Bridenstine and Johnie Surrett, both of Caney, and Burt Shutt of Bartlesville. The team was the first to play football in the stadium, which was built as a Works Progress Administration project at a total cost of $55,000.
