COFFEYVILLE — Fireworks erupted among members of the Coffeyville City Commission Tuesday night as the commissioners got into a heated discussion about a proposed downtown housing program.

However, much of the sparring focused on how commissioner Jim Taylor, Sr., has objected to the proposed program. Taylor has been an ardent critic of the proposed housing program, which calls for a 32-unit, low-income apartment complex to be built on the Mill Supply property at Union and Eighth streets.

Coffeyville Police are helping identify the body of a dead woman found in a rural Cherokee County ditch on Tuesday morning.

 

KOAM TV is reporting that Job Humble, Coffeyville police chief, was notified by the Cherokee County Sheriff’s Department early today after finding the body of a dead woman.  A body of pills was found on the woman’s person, which is believed to be connected to Coffeyville.  A detective with the Coffeyville Police Department was dispatched to Cherokee County to aid in the identification of the woman.  An autopsy is being scheduled.
