A former Cherryvale woman was killed in a two-vehicle wreck in Georgia on Friday, Sept. 4.

 

The George State Highway Patrol said two people died in the wreck, including former Cherryvale resident Linda Buschmann, age 66.  Buschmann and her husband, Jerry, lived in Cherryvale only until several years ago when Jerry, who was pastor of the First Baptist Church of Cherryvale, moved to Georgia.

NEW YORK CITY — Independence did not receive the coveted “America’s Best Tennis Town” award at the U.S. Open Tennis Tournament in New York City on Sunday night.

 

Instead, Independence, one of three national finalist cities, earned third place and a $25,000 cash prize from the U.S. Tennis Association.   Ojai, Calif., was the runner-up and Midland, Mich., won the “America’s Best Tennis Town” award.
