CHERRYVALE — The U.S. Postal Office in Cherryvale will celebrate the appearance of hometown favorite Vivian Vance on a U.S. posvivianwebtage stamp by presenting an enlargement of the stamp to Vance’s relatives in a ceremony planned for 10 a.m., Tuesday, Aug. 11.

Vance was best known for her portrayal of Ethel Mertz on the “I Love Lucy” TV show of the 1950s and as Vivian Bagley on the “Here’s Lucy” series of the early 1960s.

The ceremony will be held at 309 W. Sixth — Vance’s birthplace. It is also a home owned by Imogene Littell, who is Vance’s second cousin. Postmaster Dan Wishall plans to present the enlarged stamp replica to Littell as well as two other Vance cousins in Cherryvale: Carilyn Clark and Jack Ragan.

The public is invited to attend the ceremony.

On Monday, August 3, the Coffeyville Aquatic Center closed early when pool personnel learned a patron entering the pool water at approximately 6:10 pm had a staph infection.  The chlorine in the pool is maintained at levels adequate to kill staph infection.

As a precautionary measure, the pool was closed and the entire aquatic center was sanitized.  Medical personnel at the pool and at Coffeyville Regional Medical Center have assured the City proper procedures were followed, and in their opinion there was no risk to the public.

The City of Coffeyville regrets the inconvenience the pool closing caused.
