Kylie Ewing of the Peppy Progressive 4-H Club and Shane Moore of the Valley Victors 4-H Club were named the 88th Annual Montgomery County 4-H Fair Queen and King during Tuesday’s Style Revue at the Independence Memorial Hall. More 4-H fair activities continue this week at Riverside Park in Independence. Check back at this website for daily updates and videos. The Montgomery County Commission on Monday settled on a proposed mill levy of 51.876 mills for fiscal 2010, which represents a 22.6 percent increase from the current 2009 budget year.  The current 2009 mill levy is 42.299 mills.

The bulk of the tax increase will be devoted to meeting anticipated tax refunds for the Coffeyville Resources nitrogen plan and refinery.  Most county programs will not see an increase in spending for 2010.
