INDEPENDENCE — The 88th Annual Montgomery County 4-H Fair got underway in earnest Tuesday with a fashion fair held in the Independence Civic Center.
Dozens of 4-H youths donned their best clothing for evaluation by judges. Many of those same youths will display their garments during the fair’s annual Style Revue, which will be held at 7 p.m., next Tuesday, July 21, in Memorial Hall.
Also at next Tuesday’s Style Revue, the 4-H fair king and queen will be named. Representatives from each of the 4-H clubs in Montgomery County will be represented.
The bulk of the county 4-H fair activities will begin on Wednesday, July 22, with the setup of exhibits at the 4-H buildings in Riverside Park.
Judging of rabbits will be held at 7 p.m., Thursday, July 23 while meat goats, sheep and hogs will be entered from 6 p.m. to 9 p.m., and from 8 a.m. to noon, Friday, July 24. Steers will also be entered and weighed at noon on Friday.
Also on Friday, July 24, all indoor exhibits will be entered beginning at 8 a.m., followed by judging of inside exhibits and poultry at 1 p.m. The presentation of inside exhibit awards will begin at 5:45 p.m., followed by the 4-H Fair Food Auction at 6 p.m., and the swine show at 7 p.m.
On Saturday, July 25, the dairy goat show will begin the day’s events at 8 a.m., followed by interviews of bucket calf exhibitors at 9 a.m. The dairy cattle show will begin at 9 a.m., followed by the conference judging of arts and craft exhibits from 9:30 a.m. to 11:30 a.m.
The bucket calf showmanship competition begins at 6 p.m., followed by the beef show at 7 p.m.
On Sunday, July 26, events will include an inspirational celebration at 9 a.m.; a livestock knowledge competition at 1:30 p.m.; a photography judging contest at 3 p.m.; a kiddie tractor pull at 4 p.m; a sheep show and meat goat show beginning at 6 p.m.; and the dismissal of exhibits and non-sale animals from 8 p.m. to 10 p.m.
Events will conclude on Monday, July 28, with the presentation of awards at 6:45 p.m., and a livestock premium sale at 7 p.m.
The 4-H fair horse show was held on June 27. Results were printed in the July 9 edition of the Montgomery County Chronicle.
