CHERRYVALE — Final details are being placed on the plans for the Cherryvale Youth Fair, which will be held in Logan Park on July 8-11.
Dubbed the “biggest little fair in Kansas,” the Cherryvale Youth Fair traditionally signals the start of the fair season in the Montgomery County area.
Events get underway on Wednesday, July 8 with indoor exhibits being entered from 6:30 p.m. to 8:30 p.m., while livestock entries will be entered from 6:30 p.m. to 8:30 p.m. Dr. Paul Cotterill, a Cherryvale veterinarian, will be at the park from 6 p.m. to 7 p.m., to check livestock and sign health papers.
A poultry testing will be on site from 6 p.m. to 7 p.m. and led by Peyton Kessler.
A cookout sponsored by the Montgomery County Farm Bureau and Quality Car Care will be held from 7 p.m. to 8 p.m.
On Thursday, July 9, indoor exhibits will be entered from 9 a.m. to noon; livestock will be entered from 8 a.m. to 6:30 p.m., with Cotterill on site from 8 a.m to 9 a.m. and 5:30 p.m. to 6 p.m.
Judging of indoor exhibits will begin at 1 p.m., while poultry judging will be held at 4 p.m. The rabbit show will be held at 6 p.m.
The Happy Hustlers 4-H Club will sponsor its annual ice cream and cake sale at 7 p.m., while the baked goods auction will be held at 7:30 p.m.
On Friday, July 10, G&W Foods will sponsor a breakfast for fair exhibitors, their families and sponsors at 7:30 a.m.
A Skillathon, which tests fair exhibitors’ knowledge on a variety of agricultural-related topics, will be held at 9 a.m.
Entries for the adult bakeoff contest must be entered by noon, and a silent auction for those adult bakeoff entries will begin at 5 p.m.
The livestock show will begin at 5:30 p.m., (a livestock exhibitors’ meeting will begin at 5:15 p.m.). Livestock will be judged in the following order: dairy goats, meat goats, sheep, dairy, beef and swine.
The Cherryvale FFA Alumni Association will hold its annual barbecue at the park beginning at 6 p.m., while the St. Francis Xavier Altar Society ice cream and cake sale will begin at 6:30 p.m.
On Saturday, July 11, events will get underway at 9 a.m., with the bucket calf show. Exhibitors will then cleanup the park and buildings with an awards presentation to be held afterward.
Exhibitors are invited to return to Logan Park for a swim party on from 8 p.m. to 10 p.m., Sunday, July 12. The party will be sponsored by the Cherryvale Clinic.
The fair is open to kids age 3-18. Livestock entry age groups are (with birthdays as of Jan. 1):
• Senior: 14-18
• Intermediate: 10-13
• Junior: 7-9
• Peewee: 5-6
Indoor exhibit entry age groups are:
• Senior (14-18)
• Intermediate (10-13)
• Junior (7-9)
• Peewee (3-6).
A concession stand sponsored by the New Hope Christian Church youth group will be available during the duration of the fair.
Setup for the fair will begin at 6 p.m., Monday, July 6. All help is encouraged.
