Former Coffeyville Community College men’s basketball coach Bob Frederick died Friday night from injuries he sustained in a car-bicycle collision in Lawrence the previous day.

Frederick, 69, coached at CCC for a brief stint, 1969-1971, before joining the coaching staff at the University of Kansas, where Ted Owens was head coach. He was an assistant coach at KU for only one year before joining the coaching staffs at Brigham Young University and Stanford University.

Frederick was the athletic director at Illinois State University before becoming KU’s athletic director in 1987.  He left that position in 2001.
