A motorcycle chase on Monday afternoon between Coffeyville and Dearing netted the arrest of three people who were wanted in Missouri on various felony warrants.
Sheriff Robert Dierks said that he observed two white males riding motorcycles in the area of Eighth and Buckeye streets in Coffeyville at about 5 p.m., Monday. Dierks said the two motorcyclists were driving their vehicles in an unsafe manner. When Dierks began to pursue the two motorcycle drivers, the motorcyclists fled, racing through Coffeyville westbound on Eighth Street and eventually onto U.S. 166 highway.
Dierks ended his pursuit when he notified several other deputies of the motorcyclists impending arrival near county road 3900 and U.S. 166 highway.
Upon seeing the deputies, the two motorcyclists fled with one going south on county road 3900 and the other turning around and heading back toward Coffeyville.
Deputies apprehended the subject who fled south on county road 3900 while Coffeyville police eventually caught the other motorcyclist at 901 Harding in Coffeyville.
The two subjects are identified as Shane Crowe, 31, and Robert Mowen, 32, both of St. Joseph, Mo. The two men were wanted on felony charges in Missouri. During the investigation, it was discovered that both motorcycles were stolen from the St. Joseph area. A handgun also was located, which was found to be stolen from the St. Joseph area.
Dierks said that during the investigation, Robert Mowen’s sister, Megan Mowen, 23, of St. Joseph, Mo., was interviewed. It was discovered that she, too, was wanted in Missouri on felony charges and was taken into custody.
Shane Crowe and Robert Mowen will face the following charges in Montgomery County: fleeing and attempting to elude law enforcement, reckless driving, obstruction of the legal process, resisting arrest, possession of stolen property, no insurance, driving while suspended, criminal possession of a firearm. Megan Mowen was arrested solely based on her Missouri warrant.
Dierks said the sheriff’s department appreciated the help of Coffeyville police and the St. Joseph Mo., police in apprehending the three people and in the investigations that ensued.
“Three wanted felons were captured and almost $10,000 worth of stolen property, including a stolen handgun, were recovered due to the fine work of the officers involved, both mine and those of Coffeyville,” said Dierks.
