A third person has died from injuries sustained in a two-vehicle collision that took place in Nowata County on Saturday, May 9.
Gene Hobbs, 70, of South Coffeyville, Okla., died Sunday, June 5, at Jane Phillips Medical Center in Bartlesville, Okla., where he had been undergoing treatment of injuries since the collision.
That collision also claimed the lives of Kyler Blagg, 15, and his mother, Amy Blagg, 44, both of Caney.
The Oklahoma Highway Patrol believes that a mid-1950s model Chevy car was southbound on U.S. 169 highway near Lenapah when it was passing a southbound vehicle driven by Gene Hobbs. Passengers in the Hobbs’ vehicle included his wife, Anne Marie Hobbs, 63, of South Coffeyville, and Harold Tedford, 79, of Coffeyville.
In the northbound lane was the vehicle driven by Kyler Blagg. Blagg did not have enough time to respond to the oncoming Chevy car and was forced to swerve to avoid it. As a result, the Blagg and Hobbs vehicles collided while the mid-1950s Chevy car drove past the collision site and did not stop.
The Oklahoma Highway Patrol continues to investigate the collision as a hit and run collision.
A passenger in the Blagg vehicle, Tara Blagg, 11, also of Caney, continues to recuperate from injuries that she sustained in the collision.
The two passengers in the Hobbs vehicle have recovered from their injuries.
More details about the Hobbs’ death and the investigation into the collision will be printed in the June 11th edition of the Montgomery County Chronicle
