Additional charges have been filed against a Claremore, Okla., man accused of robbing a Coffeyville bank and killing an innocent bystander in an escape attempt.

Ross Alan Williams, 39, of Claremore, was indicted by a federal grand jury on Thursday, Feb. 26, where he now stands accused of four crimes: bank robbery, killing a person while attempting to escape arrest, carrying a firearm in a bank robbery, and unlawful possession of a firearm after a felony conviction.

Williams is accused of robbing the Bank of America branch on West Eighth Street in Coffeyville on Feb. 17. While attempting to escape arrest, Williams fired shots from an AK-47 assault rifle. A bystander, Willie Neal, Jr., was struck and killed.

If convicted, he faces a maximum penalty of death, or life in federal prison, on the charge of killing Neal; a maximum penalty of life in prison on the charge of using a firearm in furtherance of a bank robbery; a maximum penalty of 20 years and a fine up to $250,000 on the bank robbery charge; and a maximum penalty of 10 years a fine up to $250,000 on the charge of unlawful possession of a firearm by a felon.
