CHERRYVALE — Two Cherryvale residents sustained injuries in a single-car wreck late Thursday night, Dec. 4 in the 200 block of East Sixth Street.

According to a Cherryvale police report, Gerald Meloy of Cherryvale was driving a vehicle eastbound on Sixth Street when, after crossing the railroad tracks, left the roadway and hit a tree. The collision caused the car to flip, landing on its top.

Meloy and a passenger, Michelle Meloy, were trapped in the vehicle and were extricated by members of the Cherryvale Fire-Rescue Department.

Michelle sustained critical injuries and was flown to a Joplin, Mo., medical center. Meanwhile, Gerald was taken to Mercy Hospital in Independence for treatment of his injuries. As of this writing, their conditions were unknown.

Perry Lambert, assistant police chief, said the cause of the wreck remains under investigation.
