CANEY — A rural Caney man has returned to the regional racing circuit after trying his hand at racing in Pennsylvania in early July.
Andrew Deal, a driver of micro-sprint race cars, spent several weeks in Pennsylvania where he competed at seven different tracks. His best showing came at a track at Greenwood, Pa., where he finished in 12th place out of 162 entries.
It was a tough road for the Kansas racer, who finished high enough in the Last Chance race to qualify for the D feature. In that D feature, Deal qualified for the C feature and eventually the B feature.
However, the prestigious A feature eluded Deal, who finished three slots away from qualifying for the grand race.
“It was a brutal night because I had to compete in four consecutive races,” he said. “No sooner did I get done racing then I would pull over to fill up and get a drink and then return to the track. I was in the last of the Last Chance race and got all the way up to finishing within three slots of A feature. That wasn’t too bad.”
Only the top nine racers competed in the A feature, he said.
Since his return home, Deal competed at the Will Rogers Raceway in Claremore, Okla., last Friday, July 25. Deal won three races as part of the ASCS (American Sprint Car Series) II Sooner State circuit. He took the checkered flags in the non-wing, restricted and multi divisions.
