Donald Eugene Vance

OSWEGO—Donald Eugene Vance, 66, of Oswego, Kan., passed away Friday, July 25, 2008, at his home following a period of ill health.

Graveside funeral services were held Monday, July 28, at the Oswego Cemetery with Rev. Don Vance of Mound Valley officiating. Memorials may be made to the First Baptist Church or St. John’s Hospice with murdock Funeral Home, 203 Illinois, Oswego, KS 67356, serving as custodian.

Don was born Nov. 22, 1941, in Oswego, Kan., the son of Fred and Peggy (Pagett) Vance. He attended Oswego Schools and married Edna Sullivan of Hallowell on July 14, 1962. He was employed by KAAP in Parsons for 27 years and then worked for Diamond Coach before retiring in 2003.

Don was a member of the Oswego First Baptist Church and enjoyed hunting and fishing.

Survivors include his wife, Edna, of the home; two sons, Mark Vance and wife Michel of Tonganoxie, Kan.; and Martin Vance and wife Amber of Oswego; a daughter, Lisa Dunnic of Oronogo, Mo.; four grandchildren, one great-grandchild, two step-grandchildren, one step great-grandchild; and a sister, JoAnn Hilderbrand, Wichita.

Preceding in death were his parents and a sister, Dorothy Merwarth.

Margaret Witt

BUHLER—Margaret Witt, 92, a former Parsons, Kan., resident, died Tuesday, July 29, 2008, at Sunshine Meadows Retirement Center in Buhler. She was the widow of Cecil B. Witt, who preceded her in death on Sept. 9, 1997.

The service will be at 2 p.m. Monday at First Baptist Church in Parsons. Burial will be in Memorial Lawn Cemetery.

Further obituary details and funeral arrangements will be announced by Carson-Wall Funeral Home.

Hugh F. Foster

PARSONS—Hugh F. Foster, 95, of Parsons, Kan., died Tuesday, July 29, 2008, at his home. Death followed a lengthy period of failing health.

The service will be at 10:30 a.m., Saturday, at First Assembly of God in Parsons. Burial will be Monday morning at Fort Scott National Cemetery.

The family will receive friends from 7 to 8 p.m. Friday at Carson-Wall Funeral Home.

Memorials are suggested to either First Assembly of God Church or Hospice Care of Kansas.

William Rodney Aldinger

AFTON, Okla.—William Rodney Aldinger, 73, of Afton, Okla., died Friday, July 25, 2008.

Survivors include three daughters, Karen S. Warner of Red Lion, Pa., Sharon Miller of Oswego, Kan.; and Stacey L. Baugher of Parsons, Kan.; a son, Bill Aldinger of Oswego; and five grandchildren.

The service will be at 1 p.m. Thursday at Cowboy Junction Church in Vinita, Okla.

Memorials are suggested to the church.

Arrangements are under the direction of Paul Thomas Funeral Home, 1432 B Street Northwest, Miami, Okla., 74354.

Marilyn M. McKinney

HUTCHINSON—Marilyn M. McKinney, 81, of Hutchinson, Kan., formerly of Parsons, Kan., died Saturday, July 26, 2008, at her home.

Memorial contributions can be made to Adventist Disaster Relief Association or the American Humane Society and left in care of Elliott Mortuary, 1219 N. Main St., Hutchinson, 67502.

Private funeral plans are pending.

Alberta Bryant

COVINA, Calif.—Alberta (Thompson) Bryant, 81, a former resident of Labette County, died Friday, July 25, 2008, in Covina, Calif., after a bout with cancer.

Funeral arrangements are pending through Custer Christian Mortuaries, Covina, Calif.

Judson M. Booth

BARTLETT—Judson M. Booth, 80, of rural Bartlett, Kan., died Wednesday, July 30, 2008, at Chetopa Manor Nursing Home.

His body has been donated to science. The Bath-Forbes-Hoffman Funeral Home in Chetopa is in charge of arrangements.

Carl Singleton

CHETOPA—Carl Singleton, 60, of Chetopa, Kan., died Wednesday, July 30, 2008, at his home. He had been in his usual health and death was not expected.

The body has been cremated. No service is planned at this time. The Bath-Forbes-Hoffman Funeral Home in Chetopa is in charge of arrangements.

Getella (DeJarnette) Day

PARSONS—Getella (DeJarnette) Day, 89, of Parsons, Kan., died Monday, Aug. 4, 2008, at Labette Health.

Funeral services will be at 10 a.m. Thursday, at the Carson-Wall Funeral Home, Parsons, with Rev. Jack Smith officiating. Burial will be in Memorial Lawn Cemetery. Memorials are suggested to the First Christian Church of Parsons. They may be left at or sent to the funeral home at Box 942, Parsons, KS 67357.

Grace E. Hibbs

PARSONS—Grace E. Hibbs, 75, of Parsons, Kan., died at Sunday, Aug. 3, 2008, at Freeman West Hospital in Joplin, Mo.

PARSONS—Marvin L. Davis, 65, of Parsons, Kan., died Friday, Aug. 1, 2008, at his home.

PRYOR, Okla.–Gina LeAnn (Clayborn) Scroggins, 42, of Pryor, Okla., died Thursday, July 24, 2008, after a long battle with cancer. She grew up in Chetopa and graduated from Chetopa High School.

Funeral services will be held at 10 a.m., Monday, at the First Baptist Church, Salina, Okla. Interment will be at 2 p.m. at Oak Hill Cemetery, Chetopa, Kan. Stephens Memorial Chapel, 1525 NE First St., Pryor, Okla., 74362, is in charge of arrangements.

Funeral Mass will be held at 10 a.m., Tuesday, July 29, at St. Patrick’s Catholic School Gymnasium in Parsons. Burial will be in Mt. Olivet Cemetery. The Rosary will be held at 6:30 p.m., Monday, June 28, at Forbes-Hoffman Funeral Home in Parsons.

Memorials are suggested to St. Patrick’s Church Renovation Fund or St. Patrick’s School Endowment Fund. These may be left at or mailed to Forbes-Hoffman Funeral Home, P.O. Box 374, Parsons, KS 67357.

Ephner J. Bowin
