New visitor’s guide to Oswego brochures were handed out at the monthly meeting of the Oswego Chamber meeting, held Wednesday, Aug. at noon, at city hall.
President Cindy Dean showed the brochures, both color and black and white that will be displayed at the City Office, Oswego Historical Museum, the Southeast Educational Museum and the Labette Avenue.
The brochure shows what Oswego has to offer in the way of merchants, schools and churches. It also lists points of interest in the area.
A letter of resignation from the board was read by Pastor Paul Wiand, stating so, due to health reasons.
Dean gave an update the chamber latest project. The chamber gave out over 15 cases of water during the Premium Sale at the Labette County Fair this year.
The chamber sponsored fall garage sale will be held on Sept. 6. Don McLead, manager of the G&W Foods in Oswego, told the chamber that the store parking lot will be available for those families residing in rural Oswego that would like to pay the $11 city fee, they could set up their sale items there.

There are 58 members in the chamber so far this year.
Plans are being made for this year’s Oswegofest, Nikki Lewis will be heading this project this year. It will be held on Sept. 27, in conjunction with the Oswego High School Alumni Banquet, in Riverside Park.

Bottled water will be given out during the Labette County Fair Premium Sale on Friday, was deicded at the Oswego Chamber of Commerce Board of Directors met Wednesday, July 9, 2008 at noon at Oswego City Hall with President Cindy Dean, Kevin Sheddrick, Pastor Paul Wiand and Rena Russell.
Board members not present were: Lori Brake, Ron Geifer, Terry Robison, Matt George and Linda Rife.
Committee reports given were as follows:
• Kevin Sheddrick will select a template for the web page and bring it back for board approval and ideas.
• Kevin Sheddrick reported on new incentives the city is working on for housing.
In old business matters:
• It was approved for Linda Rife to have chamber brochures printed.
• It was mentioned the need for board members.
In new business and announcements the chamber decided to keep the present mission statement.
• The First Friday Coffee will be held at Labette Avenue from 7:30-8 a.m. Businesses interested in having a Friday Coffee or Open House need to contact Cindy Dean.
• There are 59 memberships to date.
• Voted not to participate in a health fair Aug. 7.
• Voted no on donating to a wiffle ball tournament.
• Pastor Paul has sent a letter to Dollar General headquarters on becoming a member of chamber. He is waiting for an answer.
Next meeting will be held Aug. 13 at noon.

Cindy Dean is the new Chamber president for this year. She is a graduate of OHS in 1991. Married to Jeff Dean and they have three children:
Gwyneth, age 9; Easton, seven; and Anna Grace, four years old. Dean is the treasurer/secretary at USD 504.

The Home Place of Oswego is having an open house this Friday. “Oswego Chamber is really happy we get to help with this, Dean said. We are hoping some other businesses in Oswego will have open houses also,” she said.

“I am so excited about the new happenings that are coming up in the Chamber. We are planning the first Friday Chamber Coffees. Our first one will be at Vail’s Automotive on Friday, May 2 from 7:30 - 8 a.m. , she said.”

The first Friday Coffees will be an exciting fresh start of the year. “Chamber is thrilled to get something like this started. This will get the businesses of Oswego together once a month to visit and just to get to know our businesses better,” she said.

The Oswego Chamber of Commerce held their monthly board meting on Wednesday, April 9 at City Hall.

Those present were President Cindy Dean, Lori Brake, Rena Russell and Pastor Paul Wiand. Absent were Kevin Sheddrick, Matt George, Matt Vail, Ron Geifer, Terry Robison and Linda K. Rife.

Around 15 attended the Chamber Annual Meeting on March 27.

The Spring Garage Sale is set for May 3 and will also include downtown businesses who might want to have a sidewalk sale that day. If they are a chamber member, the garage sale fee will be waived. The businesses interested need to contact Misha George at the Labette Bank to get on the map.

Pastor Paul Wiand will take the free membership to Daniel Venturi of Bicycle Bones Classic Bicycles.

Next meeting will be held Wednesday, May 14, noon, at City Hall. President Dean will call all board members and remind them and see if they would rather go somewhere and eat while they have the meeting. The board also approved to open the monthly meetings to all chamber members and interested businesses.
