USD 504‑Oswego Board of Education members met in a special meeting last Wednesday with one purpose in mind: to trim next year’s budget. Faced with reductions in state aid and declining enrollment, Supt. Terry Karlin told the board that from the beginning of the 2008-2009 school year to the start of the 2010-2011 school year, USD 504 General Fund and Supplemental General Fund budget authority will decrease a projected $623,924 as a result of base state aid reductions and declining enrollment. This represents a 12 percent reduction in the district’s primary operating funds. Read more

Oswego High School will hold its homecoming ceremonies at the halftime of the boys basketball game against St. Paul on Friday, Feb. 5. OHS queen candidates include seniors: Rayvn Ash, daughter of  Floyd and Tina Ash; Amanda Riley, daughter of Skip and Julee Riley and Alicia Gurnee, daughter of Jake and Cheryl Gurnee. Attendants include: Rachael Green, daughter of Lee and Jennie Green; Emily Horn,  daughter of Tom and Kim Horn; Whisper Cormeny, daughter of Ed and April Cormeny.

Six more selected honorable mention

The Oswego High School football team has yet to close its books on a successful 2009 season, with two state newspapers announcing All-State selections including seven OHS players.
Michael Bullard, OHS senior, was named as linebacker to 1st Team All-State Class 2-1A by both the Topeka Capital-Journal and the Wichita Eagle.

Michael is the son of Chris Brannin, Oswego and John Bullard, Columbus.

The Third Annual Veteran’s Day Program will be held on Nov. 11 at 1:30 p.m. at the Oswego High School Commons Area.
The program will be directed by Jeanne Dalton, the State Treasurer of the VFW Auxiliary. Mayor Tom Bringle will give the welcome. Music will be by OHS and OMS students under the instruction of Robert Harris. A retired adjutant quartermaster of the State of Kansas VFW will be the guest speaker. Read more
