Labette County voters will go to the polls next Tuesday, April 5, to elect city, school board and community college officials.
Polls will open at 7 a.m. and close at 7 p.m., according to County Election Officer Linda Schreppel.

The Eli Young Band — coming to the Labette County Fair in July

The Labette County Fair Board has reached an agreement with a nationally known musical group to headline the 2011 Labette County Fair.  Universal South Recording Artist, Eli Young Band, will bring record chart hits, like “When It Rains” and “Home” to the main stage on Tuesday July 26.” We are thrilled to have this big of an entertainer to help us celebrate our 100th Anniversary” said Jeff Falkenstien, Entertainment Chair for the fair board.  “This type of event is only fitting for such an important milestone for our county.” Read more

A lease purchase agreement was approved at Monday’s county commission meeting for a financing package of six patrol vehicles for the sheriff’s department.
Bank of Parsons was the low bid as the financing institution for three payments of $43,475.99 due in December of 2012, 2013 and 2014, at a percentage rate of 2.82. The total financing package was $123,403.50.

The Chetopa Manor Resident’s Activity Committee is selling cookies from Friday, March 18 until Friday, April 15.
You can choose from chocolate chip, sugar, peanut butter, oatmeal raisin, or carnival (rainbow chip). The cost is $2 per dozen of one kind or $6 for four dozen of the same kind.
People wishing to order cookies can stop by the nursing home to order and pay for them.
The cookies can be picked up Friday, April 22 between noon and 4 p.m. at Chetopa Manor.
All proceeds will go towards the purchase of a new TV for the residents.

The Labette County Sheriff’s Department will add six vehicles to his fleet approved at Monday’s County Commission meeting.
Sheriff William Blundell will receive six Ford Expedition 4×4 from Mike Carpino Ford of Columbus for $26,723 each making the package bid $164,538. The one-fourth down will be paid out of the county general fund, that Blundell has in his budget. The remainder will be paid in three payments. Blundell was told to seek bids on the loaning institution. Seven older vehicles in the fleet will be auctioned off.

The City of Oswego is taking action to rid the town of junked or inoperable vehicles.
Approximately 95 properties were identified to have such vehicles and a courtesy letter was mailed to each property owner on Friday, Feb. 18 notifying the property owner, the tenant and the owner of the vehicle they are in violation of the city’s junked motor vehicle ordinance. Read more
