Only Parsons to have primary election

No primary election will be required to decide city, school board and community college trustee positions in the spring elections, other than voters residing Parsons.
Linda Schreppel, Labette County Clerk, said all other entities will make their choices for local offices on Tuesday, April 5. Since there were 10 candidates filing for the Parsons City Commission, a primary will be held on March 1.
Filings for city, school and community college elected offices were finalized Tuesday, Jan. 25, at noon.
Following is a list of those filing:
Altamont - Michael Good, Preston Haddan, Richard Hayward Jr. and Duane Kellerman, running for three positions on the city council, all four-year terms.
Bartlett - Cheryl Hanigan and Russell McConnell were the only two candidates filing for the five city council position. No candidates filed for mayor.
Edna - There were no candidates for mayor, and no candidates for the two city council positions.
Oswego - Glenn Fischer and Bob Shields will be on the ballot for mayor. Dee Brown, William Gray, Larry Hawkins, William Owens and Darren Tynan filed for the three city council positions.
Chetopa - Ron Wood and Dr. Lance Keeling filed for Chetopa mayor. Nine filed for the three available city council positions: Pat Blaich, Connie Blundell, Zachary Lawellin, Lloyd McGill, Joey Midgett, Terry Walker, Joe Wallace, Virgil Welden and Bill Wittner.
Labette City - Brenda Evans filed for mayor and Jeffrey Ferguson, Doris Haney, Arta Mae Lewis, Penny Vanderpool and Glenda Kay Ventle filed for the five city council positions.
Mound Valley - Alex Ybarra and Dr. William Wilcox filed for city council.
USD 504 Oswego- Board of Education - Candidates filing for the four at-large school positions: William Barnes, Steven Charles, Tina Dinnsen, Jordan Irwin, Steve McBrien, Shaun Stapleton and Crystal Yeoman.
USD 505 - Chetopa/St. Paul - Board of Education - Dist. 1, Pos. 1 - Doug Moses and Nancy Rice.
Dist. 2, Pos. 2 - Craig Sanders.
Dist. 3, Pos. 3 - Jeffrey Corn.
Pos. 7 at large - Michael McCracken and Jane A. O’Bryan.
USD 506 Board of Education - Pos. 1 - Shelley Perez
Pos. 2 - Gail Billman and Michael Cook.
Pos. 3 - Jessie Foister and Chuck Johnston.
Pos. 7 - Michael Finley and Dr. Kolette Smith.
LCC Board of Trustees - Matthew Atteberrry, Carl Hoskins, Montie Taylor, David Winchell and Aubury Schultz filed for the three trustee positions.
In Parsons, those filing for city commission and forcing a primary election there were: Jim Fish, Bill Wheat, Bob Bartelli, Robert O’Kelley, Mark Bufkin, Kevin Cruse, Frankie Barnett, James Wilson, Bill Hogelin and Vetta “Bunny” Stewart.
Schreppel said the City of Parsons will be required to pay for the primary election which could run from $3,500 to $5,000.
The deadline to register (if you aren’t’ already registered) for the April 5 election is March 21. The deadline to register to vote in the March 21 primary election is Feb. 14.
