Oswego’s yearly fall festival is set for Saturday, Sept. 25, and it promises something for everyone who attends.
Events will run from early morning until late in the evening, and a full schedule of events is printed on the back page of today’s Labette Avenue.
From a pedal pull to a petting zoo, to wiener dog races to a pie baking contest to a pumpkin decorating event to a huge car show — Oswegofest is expected to bring hundreds of visitors and hometown neighbotrs to town.

The annual POW/MIA balloon lift-off will be held on Friday, Sept. 17, at 10 a.m. on the North side of the Chetopa School.
The program will be put on by the 5th and 6th grade classes of USD 505. The Color Guard will be provided by the Brown-Bishop VFW Post #704 of Parsons.
All members of the community are invited to attend to help insure that these military personnel are not forgotten. The Chetopa Memorial VFW Post #10508 and the Ladies Auxiliary annually sponsor this program.

Former Gov. Mike Hayden who now serves as Secretary of the Kansas Department of Wildlife and Parks was in Labette County last Friday to help transfer nearly 3,000 acres of land in the former Kansas Army Ammunition Plant for hunting and fishing purposes. Hayden called the vast area, to be known as Grand Osage, a “mecca for hunters and fishermen.” See this week’s Labette Avenue for coverage.
