Special tribute given to those from Oswego who lost their lives during war

The official ending of World War II was commemorated last Saturday evening on the lawn of the Labette County Courthouse in Oswego by local veterans and other citizens.
Lonie Addis, a veteran of the Vietnam War, served as master of ceremonies and Jeanie Dalton
placed a wreath at the base of the courthouse flagpole. Read more

Labette County Commissioners were able to hold their mill levy for the upcoming year to approximately its current level, according to the proposed budget printed elsewhere in today’s Labette Avenue.
The county is seeking a .171 (about one-sixth of a mill) increase, Chairman Brian Kinzie told those at the regular meeting on Monday morning. Read more

Plans are already in progress for the Centennial 100th anniversary of the Labette County Fair in 2011.

A new logo is needed and the winner will see the logo used on all materials and also win $100 cash plus two tickets to all events at the fair.

Anyone may send entries in jpeg format to rod@wavewls.com by October 15. The winner will be announced at the auction fundraiser on November 13th and entries accepted only from Labette County residents. Tickets to the dinner auction are $35 a couple and $25 for a single and available by calling the extension office at 620-784-5337.

A special public tribute will be made nationwide to the World War II veterans and the public is invited to attend a ceremony in Oswego on Saturday, Aug. 14, at 7 p.m. on the courthouse lawn. Bring your lawn chairs.
This initiative is called “Keep The Spirit of ‘45 Alive,” and it commemoratess the end of World War II on Aug. 14, 1945. You may find information about it by visiting the website: www.spiritof45.com.
Taps will be played at 7 p.m. A brief ceremony will follow which includes a reading of the names of Oswego World War II Veterans.
Everyone is invited to participate in this special recognition.
