Chetopa will get community center

The ground breaking for the new Mae Lessley Community Center was held on Tuesday Night at 8 p.m on July 27 at the Chetopa City Park.
The First Christian Church will be building a 30 x 80 Mae Lessley Community Center. The First Christian Church received a very nice donation from Mae and in return the church is building a community center for everyone to use and enjoy.
The City of Chetopa donated the land in the park. Upon completion of the building the church will donate the building to the city. During the council meeting last Tuesday night, July 20, the council agreed to keep the building and the land in the city name; therefore, they will be paying the insurance under their blanket policy. The Chamber of Commerce will be managing and scheduling the events. Contractors are to start Wednesday, July 28.
