Flagpole Festival set for weekend

The Mound Valley Flagpole Festival is a special two-day event on Friday, June 25 from 5 to 8 p.m. and Saturday, June 26, from 7 a.m. until after the fireworks display after 9:30 p.m. The events will be held at the Mound Valley Community Center.
There will be food booths with chili cook-offs and ice cream freeze contests. Later the food will be sold as a fundraiser for the event.
There are patriotic yard contests, scavenger hunts, crafts for kids, games, chalk art contests, free watermelon feed, patriotic dress contest, brain freeze contest, 5K run/1 mile fun walk, baby swimwear contests and the amazing race contest.
There is a burnout contest, a petting zoo, pony rides, bike decoration contest, a parade, horseshoe tournament, a pony pull, entertainment, quilt exhibit, car bash, carriage rides, inflatables, a dunk tank, a magic show, turtle race, hula hoop contest, egg toss, bicycle race, tricycle race, scooter race, water balloon toss, the Flagpole Festival Challenge, garden tractor pull, softball game, pie eating contest, raffles and last but not least––Fireworks.
Entertainment will be Rick Cook and Seminole Wind.
Dinner consisting of fried chicken, potato salad, roll, coleslaw, cake, and a drink will be available at 6 p.m. at the ball field on Saturday night. The cost is $6 for adults and $4 for students.
Bring your lawn chairs to downtown Mound Valley and enjoy this great festival where everyone joins in the fun. The fireworks are provided by the City of Mound Valley and the Fire Department will be responsible for the fireworks entertainment on Saturday, June 26, after 9:30 p.m.
