Labette County farmers are making the best of the hot, sunny weather to start their wheat harvest. Area elevators reeport heavy activity this week, thanks to good growing conditions earlier in the spring and winter. The harvester shown was cutting a field located east of Oswego near the airport.    Walter Eck at the Bartlett Co-op in Oswego, said most cuttings were making 12 to 35 bushels per acre, but the test weight is low (54s and 55s). The best load made 35 bushels and had a test weight of 58.1. There has been a lot of scab and smut reported in this year’s crop.
