KLKC back on the air

Parsons, Ks – Thanks to engineering magic performed by Jerry Tibbets, both KLKC AM & FM were back on the air by mid Thursday afternoon.

However, live broadcasting is not quite ready to resume because fans being used to eliminate moisture in the building are so noisy.

If a microphone were opened right now, it would sound like the outside of an airport terminal.  The stations sustained considerable damage during the early morning hours of Wednesday when a severe thunderstorm rolled back the roof that covered KLKC and adjoining business, the Jock’s Nitch, and sucked in two windows on the second floor of the building located in the 18-hundred block of Main in downtown Parsons.  Clean-up and repair work started within four hours after the water damage was discovered at 4 a.m. Wednesday, when sports director Steve Lardy arrived to prepare for his early morning program. Ceiling tiles should be replaced by next week and it’s not known yet how much work will be needed on floors and walls. J.R. Allen, manager of the Parsons Jock’s Nitch store said inventory will be replaced, but it may be a couple of weeks before the facility is ready to re-open.
