Storm Damage to KLKC and Jock’s Nitch

Parsons, Ks – Tornado sirens blowing in Parsons early Wednesday morning were reportedly caused by a malfunction according to the Police Department, however, something blew through town resulting in extensive damage to KLKC Radio Station at 1812 Main and Jock’s Nitch Sporting Goods at 1814 Main.

A shared roof over the two downtown businesses was rolled back like a carpet about a quarter to a third of the length of the building, starting at the north edge.  Two windows on the second level of the structure were sucked inside.  Heavy rain during the night and early morning hours caused ceiling tiles and insulation to fall in the front portion of the ground level of the radio station and the retail store, leaving standing water in its wake.  Electronic equipment was damaged at the radio station and General Manager Mike Snow estimated it may be Monday before KLKC AM and Max FM 93.5 resume broadcasting.  Phil Minton, owner of the Jock’s Nitch Stores, indicated after clean-up and replacement of inventory, he’s hoping the Parsons facility will also re-open Monday.
