Estella Marie Horner
OSWEGO––Estella Marie Horner, 88, of Oswego, Kan., passed away Wednesday, May 19, 2010, at Oswego Health and Rehabilitation enter.
Memorial services will be at 2 p.m. Friday, May 28, 2010, at the First Presbyterian Church with Rev. Sydney Smith officiating. Mrs. Horner’s body was cremated.

Marie was born July 15, 1921 in Sherman, Kan., the daughter of Vernon and Fern (Sullivan) Robison. She was a graduate of LCCHS High School of Altamont in 1939 and received a teaching certificate. Marie taught at the Stice Country School. She married Joe Horner of Junction City, Kan. on July 11, 1942. Marie was a local artist and taught art classes for Labette Community College. She was very active in the Oswego Historical Society doing genealogy research and writing articles for the newspaper. She painted the original paintings that the Oswego and Chetopa wall murals were copied from. She was a member of the Oswego Arts Club.
She was preceded in death by her husband Joe in 2007 and is survived by five daughters: Judy Roessler of Oswego; twins–Sharon Clark and husband Steve of McCook, Neb., and Karen Kroeger and Lyle of Lincoln, Neb.; Susan Wilkinson of El Paso, Texas; Peggy Young and Bob of Bartlesville, Okla.; one son, Kim Horner and wife Mary of Springfield, Mo.; eleven grandchildren and 23 great grandchildren; one brother, Ross Robison and wife Irene of Claremore, Okla.

Reverend Charles R. Crum
HOLTS SUMMIT, Mo.––The Reverend Charles R. Crum, 74, of Holts Summit, Mo., died Monday, Jan. 25, 2010, at the Capital Region Medical Center. A graveside service will be held on Saturday, May 29, 2010, at the North Edna Cemetery. Rev. Shane Crum will officiate.
Charles was born April 8, 1935 in Coffeyville, Kan., the son of Herthal W. and Louise Scoville-Crum. He was married on May 22, 1954 in Wichita to Reta C. Cole.
A resident of the Central Missouri area for the past fifteen years, Charles graduated from Field Kindley High School in Coffeyville, Kan. He attended Wichita State University and graduated from the United States Naval School of Music in 1956. He also graduated from Mid-Western Seminary in 1983.
Charles served as military musician in the United States Navy for seven years. He was in the Congressional approved United States Coast Guard Band retiring July 31, 1973.
Charles served as pastor and music minister at churches in Connecticut, Rhode Island, Massachusetts, New Hampshire, Maine, Vermont, Illinois, Indiana, Oklahoma, and Kansas. He served as the minister at Cedar Grove Baptist Church in Holts Summit for ten years prior to his retirement on Dec. 31, 2005.
He was a member of Immanuel Baptist Church. Charles was an accomplished musician playing the trombone with several bands.
Survivors include his wife, Reta Crum; two sons, Shawn R. Crum and his wife Jennie of Jefferson City, Mo., and Shane K. Crum and his wife Sherree of Hickory Hill, Mo.; one daughter, Lori C. Johnston and her husband Robert of Irving, Texas; six grandchildren, Mark Zbinden and his wife Tina, Caleb Johnston, Cara Johnston, Colin Johnston and his wife Jordan, Jason Crum and his wife Lyndsay, and Jesse Crum and his wife Kendra; one great-grandchild and three step-great-grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by his parents.
Peggy Lee Salyers
PARSONS––Peggy Lee Salyers, 75, lifelong Parsons resident, died at 2:27 a.m., Wednesday, May 19, 2010 at the Wesley Medical Center in Wichita. Her death was unexpected.
Funeral services will be at 1 p.m., Saturday, May 22, at the Church of the Nazarene. Burial will be in Memorial Lawn Cemetery.
The family will receive friends at the Carson-Wall Funeral Home from 6 to 8 p.m., Friday.

She was born March 6, 1935, in Parsons to Kenneth L. and Vera M. (Parsons) Sterling. She attended Parsons schools and graduated from Parsons High School in 1953.
On August 21, 1953 she and Curtis L. Salyers were married at the former First Methodist Church in Parsons, where she was a member for many years. She was blessed with three beautiful boys, whom she loved with all of her heart.
For over 30 years the Salyers’ owned and operated the Silver Wheels Skating Rink in Parsons, where Peggy touched the lives of so many. For the past ten years, she greeted patrons at Wal-Mart in Parsons with a smile. She joyfully attended the Church of the Nazarene.
Her family was her life. She was always busy making memories with them and loved every minute. She also enjoyed her “club” of lifelong girlfriends. Her mouthwatering cooking will be missed. Mickey Mouse, Coca Cola, Cabbage Patch Dolls, pets and pictures were a few of her favorite things.
Survivors include her husband, Curtis L. Salyers of the home; two sons, Lee A. Salyers and his wife Diane and Noel Salyers and his wife Kelly, both of Parsons; five grandchildren–Ashleigh Salyers Marks and her husband Jesse; Megan Salyers Monsour and her husband Sleiman, Wichita; Cam Salyers, Lawrence; Rodney Salyers and his wife Emily, Parsons; Amanda Salyers and her fiance Lee Spencer, Parsons; three step-grandchildren, Darryel Neel and his wife Marcie, Parsons; Kara Chapman and her husband Randall, Edmond, Okla. Dalenie Neel, Oswego; two great grandchildren, Gavin and Ava Salyers, Parsons; four step-great-grandchildren, Ezekiel Chapman, Edmond, Okla.; Ava Chapman, Edmond, Okla.; Olivia Chapman, Edmond, Okla.; two sisters, Bette Whetzel and her husband Harold “Hut,”,Parsons; Sue Ann Boerding and her husband Irv, Tucson, Ariz.; several nieces and nephews.
Preceding her in death were her parents and her son, Rodney Salyers, who died July 14, 1984.
Juanita Bush
PARSONS—Juanita Bush, 82, a longtime Parsons, Kan., resident, died Tuesday, May 25, at her residence following a brief illness.
In addition to her husband she was preceded in death by a son, Jack Forshey; a daughter, Cheryl Blackburn; a brother, Buck Divine; and a sister, Ruby Buchanan.
Funeral services were held Friday, May 28, at the Carson-Wall Funeral Home. Burial will follow in the Oakwood Cemetery. Memorials are suggested to the Proud Animal Lovers Shelter and these may be left at or mailed to the funeral home 112 N. 26th St., P.O. Box 942, Parsons, KS 67357.

PARSONS—Ruby Gale, 96, lifelong Parsons, Kan., resident, died Saturday, May 22, 2010, at the Good Samaritan Center in Parsons, where she had resided since January.
Funeral services were held Thursday, at the Carson-Wall Funeral Home. Burial was in Memorial Lawn Cemetery.
The family will receive friends at the funeral home from 6 to 7 p.m., Wednesday. Memorials are suggested to the First Christian Church.

Maurine Cantrell
PARSONS—Maurine Cantrell, 94, of Parsons, Kan., died May 21, 2010 at the Elmhaven East Nursing Home. She resided at Woodridge Estates before entering the nursing home a week ago.
Funeral services were held Tuesday at the Wesley United Methodist Church. Burial was at the Hosey Hill Cemetery in Weir.
