Imogene I. Rankins
ALTAMONT—Imogene I. Rankins, 80, of Altamont, Kan., died at 3:35 a.m., Thursday, April 8, 2010, at Labette Health in Parsons.
Funeral services were held Saturday, April 10, at Bath-Forbes-Hoffman Funeral Home in Altamont. Burial was in Mt. Pleasant Cemetery in Altamont. The family will receive friends from 7-8:00 p.m., Friday, at the funeral home.

Imogene was born June 12, 1929, in Altamont, to Hendrick “Alfred” and Margie (Warbington) Raymond. As a young girl, she grew up in Altamont where she attended schools and was a 1946 graduate of Labette County Community High School.
On Sept. 11, 1946, she and Eugene Ellis Rankins were married in rural Edna, Kan. They made their home in Altamont where they raised their family of seven children. Imogene worked at Arkhaven Nursing Home, in Altamont, 34 years as a certified medication aide.
She enjoyed sewing, gardening, and studying Altamont history. She especially enjoyed spending time with her grandchildren.
Those surviving are five sons, Gaylan Rankins and wife, Terri, Altamont; Gail Rankins, Evesham, England; Gary Rankins and wife Vickie, Altamont; Alfred Rankins, Leavenworth; and Greg Rankins and wife Angie, Altamont; two daughters, Charolette Irvine, Mound City; and Cindy Vanderford and husband Ronnie, Altamont; 15 grandchildren and 17 great-grandchildren; one brother, Donnie Raymond and wife Barb, Wichita.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Eugene Rankins, April 19, 1999; and one brother, Larry Raymond.
Henry David Johnson
BONNER SPRINGS—Henry David Johnson, 69, of rural Bonner Springs, Kan., passed away Saturday April 10, 2010.
Funeral Services will be at 11 a.m., Thursday, April 15, at the Alden-Harrington Funeral Home with burial to follow in the Mt. Sidney Cemetery in Linwood, Kan. Visitation will be from 6 to 8 p.m. Wednesday evening, also at the funeral home.

Henry was born Dec. 28, 1940, the oldest son of seven children to Hank and Freda Johnson in Columbus, Kan. He retired from JC Penney Distribution center in Lenexa, Kan., where he worked in maintenance. Henry moved from Lenexa to rural Bonner Springs 25 years ago and enjoyed the outdoors and his country life.
Survivors include his three children, Barbara Johnson and Michael Nixon, Kansas City; David Johnson and wife Laurie, Merriam; and Kimberly Johnson and Kenneth Farmer, Lenexa; and their mother, Tommie Ann Johnson, Lenexa; six siblings, Doris and Junior Caswell, Kansas City; Lucile and John Canada, Chetopa; Bill and Diane Johnson, Chetopa; Bob and Sharon Johnson, Olathe; Archie Johnson, Chetopa; Linda Castle, Bonner Springs; five grandchildren and one great-granddaughter, as well as his significant other, Rita Fields, Basehor, Kan., and her children Denell and Daniel Fields.
James Leroy “Jim” Hodgkinson
BARTLESVILLE, Okla.—James Leroy “Jim” Hodgkinson, 78, of Bartlesville, Okla., died Tuesday at Jane Phillips Medical Center.
Funeral services were held Thursday at First Christian Church with Dennis Voth officiating. Services were directed by Stumpff Funeral Home & Crematory.

Mary Catherine Boner
PARSONS—Mary Catherine Boner, 91, of Parsons, Kan., died Friday, April 9, 2010, at Elmhaven West in Parsons.
Funeral Mass will be at 10 a.m., Monday, at St. Patrick’s Catholic Church in Parsons. Burial will be in Mount Olivet Cemetery in Parsons. The rosary will be at 6 p.m., Sunday, at Forbes-Hoffman Funeral Home in Parsons, where the family will receive friends immediately following.

Bessie A. (Tullis) Goldsmith Cary
CHETOPA—Bessie A. (Tullis) Goldsmith Cary, 90, of Chetopa, died at 7:28 a.m., Sunday, April 4, 2010, at Chetopa Manor Nursing Home.
She was born January 11, 1920, the fifth of ten children, to Robert Bruce and Mary Elizabeth (Wiley) Tullis. As a young girl, she grew up and worked with her family on their farm west of Bartlett. She attended schools in Bartlett and was a 1940 graduate of Labette County Community High School in Altamont. Prior to marriage, she worked at the Kansas Ordnance Plant during World War II and also during the Korean Conflict.
She and Willis G. Goldsmith were married in 1946 in Norwich, Kansas. The couple made their home on a farm in rural Altamont. He preceded her in death on March 23, 1973. Following his death, she attended Coffeyville Community College where she earned her vocational training certificate in food service supervision and later worked at Retirement Acres Nursing Home in Altamont in food service until she remarried. She and Alden Cary were married in 1980 in Miami, Oklahoma. After marriage, the couple made their home in rural Edna. He preceded her in death September 15, 1998. Following his death, she moved to Chetopa where she had lived since.
She enjoyed painting, reading and playing canasta with friends and relatives.
She is survived by: One Son – Larry Goldsmith and his wife, Sue rural Altamont, KS One Brother – Verl “Tom” Tullis Bartlett, KS One Sister – Leta Cunningham Weir, KS
In addition to Willis Goldsmith and Alden Cary, she was preceded in death by six brothers, and one sister.
Funeral services will be held at 10:00 a.m., Friday, April 9, 2010, at the Bartlett United Methodist Church. Burial will be in Lake Creek Cemetery near Bartlett. The family will receive friends from 7-8:00 p.m., Thursday, at Bath-Forbes-Hoffman Funeral Home in Chetopa.
