Ray Huff was hired for the new Service Valley Charter Academy and Oswego Middle School Principal position for the next school year, at a special meeting of the USD 504 school board, Monday, March 22.
Huff has taught at SVCA for the past five years. He has taught math, reading, language arts, science, physical education.
Huff is replacing Mikel Ward whose resignation as principal was approved at the last regular board of education meeting.

The Labette County Sheriff’s Office responded to a call on Saturday afternoon, March 13, at 852 1000 Road, Edna. Several persons had been conducting a controlled burn of the grassy field and the woman had become trapped by the fire and had died.
The victim was identified as 64 year old Celia K. Harris, Fredonia. The body has been sent to Topeka for autopsy.

The Labette County Sheriff’s Department has released the name of a woman who was killed in a controlled grass fire on Saturday afternoon.

Celia K. Harris, 64, of Fredonia was pronounced dead at the scene of a grass fire near 825 1000 Road near Edna at about 2:20 p.m., Saturday.  Upon arrival, Labette County Sheriff’s Department officers and Coffeyville EMS learned that Harris had become trapped by the grass fire and succumbed to the smoke and flames.  Harris had become trapped between the fire and a fence row when she was unable to escape.

Sheriff William Blundell said numerous persons were fighting the controlled fire.

An autopsy has been performed to determine the exact cause of death.
