LABETTE AVENUE
The Oswego High School Lady Indians met the Marmaton Valley High School Lady Wildcats at Oswego Monday night in the first round of their substate basketball tourney. The OHS girls triumphed, 64-35.
In a game fraught with fouls, both teams were in double bonus halfway through the second quarter. OHS had a 42-17 lead at the half, and grabbed 41 rebounds to the Wildcats’ 18 for the game. OHS more than doubled the Wildcats’ steals.
Freshman Jaymie Nesbitt double-doubled for the Lady Indians, with a dozen points and 15 rebounds. OHS junior Kali Kitterman was top scorer for the game with 22 points. She also led in steals with eight.
Freshman Bricynn Johnson tipped in 13 points for the Indians, grabbed six rebounds and had four steals. Senior Jessica Bates scored ten, had six rebounds and five steals.
For the Lady Wildcats, Cheyanne Miller, a junior, led scoring with ten. Maggie Meiwes grabbed six rebounds and Tabitha Ford led her team in steals with three. The Wildcats end their season with a 1-14 record.
The Indians stand at 16-5 and advance to play Thursday night at Oswego in a second round game against Jayhawk-Linn. Tip-off is at 7:30 p.m., following the St. Mary’s-Colgan v Sedan game at 6.
