Chetopa player fractures hand in game

Chetopa High School’s Ryan Bruning sustained a broken right hand and index finger after getting stepped on by an Oswego player during Tuesday’s Chetopa-Oswego basketball game.

Lance Allred of radio station KGGF, which broadcast the game, said Bruning fell to the floor while trying to steal a loose a basketball in the third period when an Oswego player inadvertently stepped on his hand.

Bruning got up and continued to play while blood gushed from his index finger, indicating a compound fracture.

The game was halted for about 20 minutes while the blood was cleaned up. He was taken to an area hospital for medical attention.
At that point in the game, Bruning was leading the Green Hornet players with 17 points.

The Oswego Indians lead most of the way and defeated Chetopa 71 to 44. Top scorer in the game was Oswego’s Damon Trotnic with 30 points.
