The Oswego Fire Department and law enforcement officers were called to the Diamond Coach Corp. in Oswego following a roof collapse on the south side of the facility, Wednesday, Jan. 13, around 3 p.m.

Desks had been moved before the reorganization meeting Monday of the county commission, Jan. 11. The commission voted for Brian Kinzie to become chairman of the board and Commissioner Jack Martin will be vice chair. Commissioner Lonie Addis handed the gavel over to Kinzie. Read more

The annual meeting of the Labette County Conservation District is scheduled for Saturday evening, Jan. 16 at 6:30 p.m. in the Labette County High School cafeteria at Altamont.

Craig Carnahan will preside over the election of supervisors. The Bankers Award for Soil Conservation will go to Don and Linda Sales of rural Cherryvale. The Wildlife Habitat Award will be presented to Steve and Cheryl Lewis and Steven Charles, of Oswego.

The 17th annual Martin Luther King Day has been set for Saturday, Jan. 16, at 12 noon at the Oswego Community Center, according to chairman Floyd Cavitt.
“We will have three great speakers that day,” Cavitt said. The Labette Community College men’s coach Armando Johnson, Martha Gatewood and the Chetopa Principal Ebony Hart will be the keynote speaker. Read more
