Robert Everit Boggess

OSWEGO—Robert Everit Boggess, 84, of Oswego, Kan., passed away Monday, Jan. 4, 2010, at Labette Health in Parsons, Kan.

Funeral services will be held Monday, Jan. 11, at 1 p.m. at Murdock Funeral Home, Oswego, with Pastor John Stone officiating. Burial will follow in the Oswego Cemetery. Memorials may be made to the SEK Education Museum with the funeral home serving as custodian. Condolences may be left at www.murdockfuneralhomes.com.

Robert was born Aug.21, 1925, in Hallowell, Kan., the son of Maurice and Pearl (Everit) Boggess. He was a graduate of Columbus High School. He married Dorothy Parkison on June 14, 1947. She survives of the home.

Robert was a member of the Marines 5th Division, VFW, Oswego;  Marine Corps League, Independence; and the Board of Trustees, SEK Education Museum, Oswego. He was an employee of Southwestern Bell for 35 years before retiring. He was an avid lover of the outdoors.

Additional survivors include one son, Douglas Boggess and wife Linda, Augusta; two daughters, Bobbi Durham and Theresa Boggess, both of Wichita; three sisters, Lucy Rybka, Dewey, Okla.; Lois Boggess, Dewey, Okla.; and Nora Burgraff, Lawrence, Kan. four grandchildren and one great-grandchild.

COFFEYVILLE—John Leonard “Jack” Purcell, 81, of Coffeyville, Kan., passed away Monday, Dec. 28, 2009, at Medicalodge of Coffeyville.

Funeral services will be at 2 p.m. Thursday, Dec. 31, at Cross Timbers Community Church in Edna. Burial will be in Lake Creek Cemetery west of Bartlett.

The family suggests memorials Hospice Care of Kansas in Parsons, the Activity Fund at Medicalodge of Coffeyville, or Cross Timbers Community Church Building Fund; contributions may be left with the funeral home or mailed c/o David W. Jack was born Oct. 10, 1928, at Sarles, ND, to Clarence E. and Greta (Oke) Purcell. At the age of four, his family moved to the Big Creek area in Oklahoma, south of Edna, Kan., where he attended Weimer School. When he was a young adult they moved to the Snow Hill area, later they moved east of Edna across from Rose Hill School. He farmed with his father and hauled corn for Snock Stine.

When he was young, Jack was catcher for the Thompson ball team, he had a chance to go to a league, but his dad wouldn’t sign for him.

In 1954, he was drafted into the U.S. Army, training at Camp Chaffee, Ark.

On July 18, 1953 he married Charolen Kirkland-Myers, after 21 years of marriage they were divorced. They were later married again on July 18, 1987. He lived south of Valeda for 21 years.

Jack worked for Funk Manufacturing now John Deere Coffeyville Works for many years, SEKTAM and Jenson Mfg.  Jack had a long hard battle with Parkinson’s disease.

He was a member of Cross Timbers Community Church in Edna.

Survivors include his wife, Charolen, of the home; one son, Lloyd William Purcell, Mound Valley; three granddaughters, three step-granddaughters, seven great-grandchildren, seven step-great-grandchildren; a nephew, Billy Purcell; and a niece, Charlotte Kay Purcell.

He was preceded in death by his parents, a brother, and one son David Eugene Purcell.

Goldine Waveney Butts McCullough

BELTON, Mo.—Goldine Waveney Butts McCullough, 90, of Belton, Mo., went home to the Lord with the loving hands of her family taking care of her on Jan. 2, 2010.

Visitation will be held Tuesday, Jan. 5, 5 to 8 p.m., at Cullen Funeral Home, Raymore, Mo. A Celebration of Life will be at 10 a.m., Wednesday, Jan. 6, at Belton Christian Church with graveside services following at 3 p.m, at Oak Hill Cemetery, Chetopa, Kan. Cullen funeral Home, Raymore, Mo., is in charge of arrangements.

Memorials may be made to Belton Cares, 110 W. Walnut, Belton, MO 64012, to support the continuation of the MADD Billboard in Belton.

Goldine was born Aug. 9, 1919, in Parsons, Kan., the daughter of Otis and Maude Gott Butts. She graduated from Mound Valley High School in 1936 and married Clifford Keith McCullough April 8, 1937, in the Baptist parsonage in Mound Valley. They moved to Belton, Mo., Jan. 31, 1959.

Goldine worked at Crest Thriftway for 11 years. In 1989, she retired from AT&T after 17 years.  She was a member of Belton Christian Church, where she served in the Women’s Fellowship and Bell Choir and brightened Sunday mornings as a greeter. She was an active member of MADD. Goldine had the honor of being the Grand Marshall of the Belton Community Days parade. She enjoyed working as a polling judge in Cass County for many years. One of Goldine’s loves was the Celebration Singers where she was lovingly known as Grandma Goldine to hundreds of kids.

She was preceded in death by her parents; husband, Clifford; daughters, Shirley Davis and Glenna Davis; grandson, Jimmie Barnes II, great-great-grandson, Blake Alexander Davis-Lawson; and brother, Wayne Butts.

She is survived by her daughters, Betty Moore, Hays Kan.; Peggy Conner and Donna Robertson, Belton Mo., 18 grandchildren, 39 great grandchildren and five great-great-grandchildren.

Mama and Grandma Goldine taught us love, patience, caring, and devotion to family and God. She was greatly loved and respected by her family and many friends. She will be missed by all. Heaven truly received its brightest gem the day God called her home.

Jerald L. “Jerry” Larery

PARSONS—Jerald L. “Jerry” Larery, 56, of Parsons, Kan., died Wednesday, Dec. 30, 2009, at his place of employment, Power Flame. He had been in his usual health and death was unexpected.

Funeral services will be at 10:30 a.m., Saturday, Jan. 2, at Forbes-Hoffman Funeral Home. Burial will be at Memorial Lawn Cemetery. The family will receive friends from 7 to 8 p.m. Friday at the funeral home.

Patricia Ann Dwyer

PARSONS—Patricia Ann Dwyer, 70, of Parsons, Kan., died at her home Monday, Dec. 28, 2009.

Funeral Mass will be at 10 a.m., Thursday, at St. Patrick’s Catholic Church in Parsons. Burial will be in Mount Olivet Cemetery. The rosary will be recited at 5:30 p.m., Wednesday, at Forbes-Hoffman Funeral Home with family visitation immediately following.

Kenneth Lee Hearson

COFFEYVILLE—Kenneth Lee Hearson, 70, of Coffeyville, Kan., passed away Monday, Dec. 28, 2009, at Wesley Medical Center in Wichita.

Services will be at 11 a.m. Saturday, Jan. 2, at Grace Fellowship in Coffeyville with Pastor Brent Wills officiating. Burial will follow in Robbins Cemetery west of Coffeyville.

Friends may call on Friday, Jan. 1, noon to 9 p.m. at the David W. Barnes Funeral Home in Coffeyville.

Barbara E. Austin

PARSONS—Barbara E. Austin, 88, of Parsons, Kan., died Wednesday, Dec. 30, 2009, at the Good Samaritan Society of Parsons, where she had resided since June 2006. She was preceded in death by her husband, Kirk Austin, on Jan. 27, 2007.

Sabrina D. Burnett

PARSONS—Sabrina D. Burnett, 31, of Parsons, Kan., died  Sunday, Jan. 3, 2010, at Freeman West Hospital in Joplin, Mo., following a courageous two-year battle with cancer.

A memorial service will be at 7:30 p.m., Wednesday, at Parsons Municipal Auditorium. The children of Sabrina request that those attending the service wear blue jeans and pink shirts.

Othelia M. Wester

PARSONS—Othelia M. Wester, 87, of rural Parsons, Kan., died Monday, Jan. 4, 2010, at Labette Health in Parsons.
