Oswego High School will hold its homecoming ceremonies at the halftime of the boys basketball game against St. Paul on Friday, Feb. 5. OHS queen candidates include seniors: Rayvn Ash, daughter of  Floyd and Tina Ash; Amanda Riley, daughter of Skip and Julee Riley and Alicia Gurnee, daughter of Jake and Cheryl Gurnee. Attendants include: Rachael Green, daughter of Lee and Jennie Green; Emily Horn,  daughter of Tom and Kim Horn; Whisper Cormeny, daughter of Ed and April Cormeny.
See next week’s edition of Labette Avenue for photos of the Chetopa High School homecoming candidates. The CHS homecoming ceremony will be held at the half-time of the boys basketball game against Colony-Crest on Friday, Feb. 5.

Oswego High School sophomore Whisper Cormeny intends to “use the common language of sports to bridge the continents” as she travels to Australia to compete against Aussie and American track and field athletes with the Down Under Sports organization this summer. Read more

Cossou worked on three different blown and pulled sugar projects.

Full closure of the Parsons State Hospital came closer to reality on Tuesday when Gov. Mark Parkinson announced it should begin steps at reducing its population.
In a letter to Rochelle Chronister, chair of the Facilities Closure and Realignment Commission, Parkinson said he was aware that serving the individuals at the Parsons facility can lead to a better quality of life, but he has concluded that it is not feasible to use the Parsons State Hospital as a site where residents of another closed facility might be consolidated.
