The Altamont Christmas Parade will be held on Saturday, Dec. 12, at 11 p.m. The Turkey drawings will be held then by the Fire Department and is sponsored by the Recreation Department. Boxes will be placed at local businesses to submit resident’s names for the drawing.

The Edna Christmas Parade will begin at 2 p.m., Saturday, Dec. 12 in downtown Edna. There will be an arts and crafts fair in the Edna Community Building, east Main Street from 8 a.m., to 5 p.m. The local 4-H club will have a concession stand. A holiday open house will be held at the Edna Library. A book sale and refreshments will be available.

The Chetopa Community Choir will be presenting their annual Christmas Cantata Sunday, Dec. 13, at the First Christian Church in Chetopa.
The performance will begin at 3 p.m. This year’s cantata is Christmas Mosaic by Marty Parks who stated, “Christmas Mosaic incorporates songs that span generations (even centuries!) and express the broad spectrum of moods that all feel at Christmas-time … a holy hush, moments of quiet introspection, jubilant praise and full-voiced celebration.

William Mahoney, president and chief executive officer of Labette Health in Parsons, submitted his resignation at Thursday’s meeting of the hospital’s board of directors.

Mahoney has held his executive position with Labette Health for the past five years. He told the board that he had accepted a position as chief executive officer of Skaggs Regional Medical Center in Branson, Mo. He will remain at Labette Health until January 7.

During the search for a new CEO, Chief Financial Officer Tom Macaronas, who has been at Labette Health for 11 years, will serve as interim CEO.

During his time at Labette Health, Mahoney led a $32 million expansion of the hospital. Now nearing completion, the project resulted in new and renovated facilities, including the Rector Diabetes Education and Resource Center, which was dedicated last month, and the Center of Rehabilitation Excellence, which will celebrate its grand opening December 15.

Altamont - Lighting at Lansdowne Park will be held on Friday, Dec. 4. A drawing for Mr. and Miss Jingle Bells will be held then. The children must be present to win and are ages kindergarten through third grade. The winners will ride in the Parade. KABE’s Diner will furnish free hot chocolate during the lighting ceremony.
