Jaelynn Strickland, eight-years old, of Oswego, tried to make a snowman last Saturday afternoon after Labette County received between eight and 10 inches of snow.

Congressman Jerry Moran will visit Labette Health’s Rector Diabetes Education and Resource Center at 2:30 p.m. January 5.

Congressman Moran, who has announced his candidacy for the U.S. Senate seat that will become vacant in 2010, currently represents Kansas’ First District, which includes 69 counties in central and western Kansas.

With Labette County receiving over two inches of rain that turned to ice and then adding over eight inches of snow on Christmas Eve, Labette County Road and Bridge employees spent Dec. 25 and 26 busily maintaining the county roads. Read more

The National FFA is sending a float to the Parade of Roses in Pasadena, Calif., on New Years Day. And riding on the float will be the national officers, one of whom is Bethany Bohnenblust of Altamont.

Bethany not only will ride in the Rose Bowl parade — she also will help build the float.

When Kansas teenagers get behind the wheel of a vehicle beginning on Jan 1, 2010, they’ll need to keep their hands on the steering wheel and their fingers off their cell phones.
