The Oswego Indians finished the 2009 regular season with a perfect 9-0 record following a 47-0 rout of the Yates Center Wildcats on Thursday.

Oswego will now host the first round of the class 2A state playoffs next Tuesday night, Nov. 3, against Uniontown.  Kickoff is scheduled for 7 p.m.

Meanwhile, Labette County High School is bound for the class 4A state playoffs.  The Grizzlies  beat Parsons on Thursday, 41-0. With LCHS’s  win, the Grizzlies are the district runners-up and will travel to Independence next Tuesday night, Nov. 3, for the start of the class 4A state playoffs.

A team of Labette County leaders will attend an Office of Economic Adjustment conference in Orlando, Fla., next week, Nov. 2-5, it was learned at Monday’s Labette County Commission meeting.
Brian Kinzie, commissioner, will represent the county and others attending will be Dan Goddard, Executive Director of the Great Plains Development Authority, George Knox, president of Labette Community College, Dan Peterson, retired educator from Altamont, and Ann Charles, Deputy Director of the Great Plains Industrial Park at Parsons. After clinching a state playoff berth last Friday night, Oswego High School’s football team will host Yates Center on Thursday night in a non-district game with the outcome having no bearing on the district or state playoffs for either team. Read more

Labette County High School’s varsity football team can earn a spot in the class 4A state playoffs with a victory over Parsons on Thursday night in Altamont. Read more

Chetopa’s Second Annual Pumpkin Parade will be held on Saturday, Oct. 31, at Chetopa School’s old gym for kids 0 through 6th grade. Doors will open at 5:15 p.m. for only trick or treaters immediately followed by a costume contest and prize giveaway.

The Royal Neighbors of America Chapter 1473 of Edna will celebrate 114 years of the founding organization and 110 years of the local Edna Chapter.
Funds will be donated to Edna Relief Fund quarterly and the year-end dinner will be held on Dec. 8 at the First Methodist Church in Edna. At this dinner, the public is invited to celebrate with the members their 110 years.

The Oswego Recreation Commission Halloween Party has been cancelled due to the wide spread flu that has infiltrated the USD 504 school system.

It was to be held at OHS this evening (Tuesday the 27th) at 7:00 pm.  It will not
be rescheduled.

The Recreation Commission has already bagged up all the treat bags and will disperse them to students at NEHI on Thursday afternoon.

Bethany Bohnenblust of Altamont was elected secretary of the National FFA Organization Saturday, Oct. 24 at the National FFA Convention in Indianapolis, Ind.

Bethany was previously state FFA president, and also led the Labette County High School chapter of the FFA at Altamont. She is a student at Kansas State University.

Few Kansans have held national office in the FFA and her fellow chapter members at LCHS are elated with Saturday’s announcement.

Bethany is the daughter of Jeff and Dee Bohnenblust of Altamont. The Labette County High School FFA Chapter member was among six individuals selected from a field of 39 to hold a national office.
