Parsons soldier dies in Afghanistan

Labette County lost a native son in his fight for freedom with the U.S. Army last Saturday.
Pentagon sources said E4 Daniel Cox, who was raised in Parsons, died in Afghanistan as he fulfilled his duties with the 10th Mountain Division.
Born July 19, 1986, in Winfield, to Kim and Sharon Cox, he and his family later moved to Parsons where he attended elementary and high school, graduating from Parsons High School in 2005.
Cox is remembered as an offensive and defensive lineman for the Parsons High School football team, who joined the Army before the finished high school.
He trained as part of the 10th Mountain Division, a sure guarantee that he would serve in Afghanistan, and he served two tours in that country.
Circumstances surrounding Cox’s ultimate sacrifice to this country will be released by Army officials later this week. Funeral services are pending with the Forbes-Hoffman Funeral Home at Parsons.
