A Welch school teacher, Harry “Butch” Beggerly, 61, died Sunday while hunting near Quemado Lake in the northern part of the 3.3-million-acre Gila National Forest in New Mexico.
Beggerly was in his second year as a science teacher and softball coach at Welch High School.
Investigators were not sure whether the lightning hit a tree first or the victim.

Sue Murr kept walking by the north window of the Edna Historical Museum on Monday — the building that once was the First National Bank of Edna.
Lifelong Edna resident T.W. Stone gave her the official tour of the museum, typically pointing out various highlights of his hometown. But Sue kept returning to the window with its brass framework and the two bullet holes which have become local lore since the 1931 robbery of the bank.
