Perl Creed Woodrum
PARSONS—Perl Creed Woodrum, 94, of Parsons, Kan., died at 8:05 p.m., Tuesday, June 30, 2009, at his home. He suffered from COPD for many years but had only recently been in failing health.
Funeral services will be at 2 p.m., Friday, at the Carson-Wall Funeral Home.Burial will be later at the Odd Fellows Cemetery at Newtonia, Mo.
The family will receive friends at the funeral home from 7 to 8 p.m., Thursday.

Mr. Woodrum was born Jan. 15, 1915, near Stark City, Mo., to Albert LeRoy and Toney Mae (Hamilton) Woodrum. He attended school at Richie, Mo., and graduated from high school in 1933. After graduation, he joined the Civil Conservation Corp, a works program that provided jobs during the depression. He worked building bridges and other infrastructures in Idaho, Montana, California, Arkansas and Missouri.
While stationed near Bowling Green, Mo., he met and married Myrtle Guy Jett on July 3, 1939. After leaving the C.C.C., they lived in Bloomington, Ill., where he worked for the Funk Brothers Seed Company. In 1941, they moved back to Stark City so he could help on the family farm. In 1943, he came to Parsons to find work with the M-K-T Railroad, but, instead, took the job of foreman for the Stephens Ranch, located, at that time, almost eight miles southwest of Parsons. There he raised registered Herefords and traveled to places like San Antonio, Dallas and Kansas City to show the prized bulls and cows in national livestock shows, winning many awards with them.
In 1948, the Stephens Ranch was moved two miles south of Parsons on 32nd Street, where he stayed on after the death of H. P. Stephens and until the operation was closed, at which time he retired.
In 1982, his wife was diagnosed with Alzheimer’s and he lovingly took care of her until her death on Aug. 10, 1987.
Following her death, he took up dancing and was a well known two-stepper at area dances, including Mound Valley, Altoona, Columbus, Independence and Parsons, attending several nights a week. His good friends Marvin and Lavon Blackburn always made sure Perl had a ride to the dances. He and his dancing partner, the late Wilma Wallingford, also spent many hours visiting friends in nursing homes and dancing to the delight of the residents.
Surviving are two sons, Clayton Woodrum and wife Pat, Tulsa, Okla.; and James and wife Opal, Fort Worth, Texas; one daughter, Mary Ann DuVall, of the home in Parsons; four grandchildren, Clayton Woodrum II, Tulsa, Okla.; Michelle Kellogg, Cherryvale, Larry Woodrum, Broken Arrow, Okla.; Lisa Walker, Royse City, Texas; 11 great-grandchildren, Clayton Woodrum III and Taylor Woodrum of Tulsa, Okla.; Jessica Yeoman of Parsons; Miranda and Nick Fosnight, Lane and Samantha Kellogg of Cherryvale; Terry Woodrum of Broken Arrow, Okla.; Aaron and Carol DuVall of Ft. Scott; and Brayden Walker of Royse City, Texas; and five great-great-grandchildren, Alahna and Ashon Reece and Tae and Olivia Lee, all of Parsons; and Izaiha DuVall of Fort Scott.
Besides his wife, he was preceded in death by two grandchildren, Kenny DuVall and Terry Woodrum, and all eight of his brothers and sisters.
Milan Clarence Luznicky
MIAMI, Okla.—Milan Clarence Luznicky, 86, of Miami, Okla., passed away Thursday, July 2, 2009, at Integris Baptist Regional Health Center in Miami after an illness.
A memorial service will be held at a later date.
Arrangements are under the direction of Thomas Funeral Home, Welch, Okla.
Milan was born Sept. 30, 1922, in Irving, Kan., to Emil and Anna V. (Soukup) Luznicky. He was a graduate of Blue Rapids High School in Kansas, Class of 1940. He proudly served his country with the United States Air Force during World War II, with his plane being the first to drop a bomb over Germany.
After his discharge from service, he worked on the assembly line for Boeing. He later took a job with Sears Towne East in Wichita as an outside salesman, retiring after several years.
On May 7, 1983, he married Julia Ledora Beran in Chetopa, Kan.
Milan was an avid hunter and enjoyed fishing and spending time with his family. He was affiliated with the First United Methodist Church of Chetopa and Miami.
Survivors in addition to his loving wife, Julia, of the home, include one son, Howard Luznicky; two daughters, Helen Steward and husband Jim, Manteca, Calif.; and Celeste Charette and husband Dave, St. Augustine, Fla.; two stepchildren, John Beran, Fort Scott; and Krista Warstler and husband Randy, Erie; five grandchildren; three step grandchildren; several great-grandchildren; and a host of friends.
Joe Raymond Judd
PRYOR, Okla.—Joe Raymond Judd, 81, of Pryor, Okla., died at 3:39 a.m., Friday, July 3, 2009, at his home. He had been in failing health.
Graveside services will be held 10 a.m., Wednesday, July 8, at the Russell Creek Cemetery near Chetopa, Kan. Friends may call at Bath-Forbes-Hoffman Funeral Home to sign the register book on Tuesday.

Joe was born Oct. 2, 1927, in Treece, Kan., to John Raymond and Emma Lorraine (Balay) Judd. He was a graduate of Commerce High School in Commerce, Okla.
Mr. Judd served 25 years in the United States Air Force and retired as a Senior Master Sergeant. Following his military service, he worked in the oil fields and construction. He also worked as a truck driver and laborer at Arco Warehouse in Tulsa, Okla., retiring from there in 1971.
He and Betty Irene Littlejohn were married Aug. 24, 1956, in Quapaw, Okla. She survives of the home.
Additional survivors include four daughters, Terri Huto, Salina, Okla.; Kathi Mitchell, Jacksonville, Fla.; Janet Nelson, Locust Grove, Okla.; and Tami Musgrave, Pryor, Okla.; nine grandchildren and four great-grandchildren; one brother, Bill Judd, Baxter Springs, Kan.; and one sister, Shirley Marney, Tulsa, Okla.
He was preceded in death by his parents, and one brother, Jim Judd.
Donald R. “Pops” Vining
THAYER—Donald R. “Pops” Vining, 72, of Thayer, Kan., died Thursday, July 2, 2009, at his home. He had been in failing health.
Funeral services will be held at 3 p.m., Monday, July 6, at the Thayer Christian Church. Burial will be in Harrison Cemetery, rural Thayer, with military honors given by the Kansas National Guard 891st Engineer Battalion.

Dick W. Stevens
CIMARRON—Dick W. Stevens, 80, of Cimarron, Kan., died Thursday, July 2, 2009, at Trego County-Lemke Memorial Hospital in WaKeeney. Dick was involved in the banking industry for over 50 years, and was a previous Oswego banker.
Memorial services will be held at Cimarron United Methodist Church on Monay, July 6, at 2 p.m., with Rev. Kent Little presiding. Cremation has taken place. Burial will be Tuesday, July 7, at 11 a.m., with Tom Webb presiding at the Lincoln City Cemetery in Lincoln, Kan.

William L. “Bill” Phillips
PARSONS—William L. “Bill” Phillips, 66, a lifelong Parsons resident, died at 4:26 p.m. Wednesday, July 1, 2009, at Elmhaven West nursing home in Parsons. He had been in failing health.
Funeral Mass will be at 10 a.m. Monday at St. Patrick’s Catholic Church. Burial will be in Mount Olivet Cemetery.

First Lt. Brian Bradshaw
TACOMA, Wash.—First Lt. Brian Bradshaw of Tacoma, Wash., was killed in action in Afghanistan on Saturday, June 25, 2009.
Survivors include his grandmother, Virginia Bradshaw of Parsons.
The family requests memorials be made in Brian’s name to either Pacific Lutheran University or to CYO Camps through Saint John Bosco Church.
Sandra M. Martin
COLUMBUS—Sandra M. Martin, 73, of Columbus, Kan., died Monday, June 29, 2009, at Quaker Manor in Lowell, Kan.
No services are scheduled.
Anita R. Murphy
GROVE, Okla.—Anita R. Murphy, 72, of Grove, Okla., died Tuesday, June 30, 2009 at Integris Grove General Hospital in Grove, Oklahoma.
Her husband, Lester Murphy, was manager of Twin Valley Electric Cooperative, Altamont, from 1975 to 1979, and was also Acting Manager from 2002 to 2004. He worked at Kansas Electric Cooperative in Topeka from 1979 to 2002.
A memorial service for Mrs. Murphy will be at 2 p.m., Friday, July 3, at First Christian Church, 102 W. 4th, Grove, Okla., with Dr. Wayne Shaw officiating and Minister Jim Pelley assisting.

PARSONS—Lucile Ruth Davis, 95, a longtime Parsons, Kan., area teacher, died Sunday morning, June 28, 2009, at Woodridge Estates in Parsons.

Michael J. Mitts
OLATHE—Michael J. Mitts, 59, of Olathe, Kan., a Columbus, Kan., native, died Monday, June 29, 2009, at Olathe Medical Center following a long illness.

ALTAMONT—Mary L. Feuerborn, 70, of Altamont, Kan., died Monday, July 6, 2009, at the Good Samaritan Society of in Parsons.

Funeral services will be at 10 a.m., Friday, at Holy Angels Catholic Church in Garnett. Burial will follow at Holy Angels Cemetery in Garnett. A rosary will be recited at 7 p.m., Thursday, at Feuerborn Family Funeral Service Chapel in Garnett.
