Brenda Lewellen brushes down her market steer at the Labette County Fair. This is her eighth year to enter a steer at the fair. She is a member of the Labette County High School FFA and is a sophomore at LCHS. Brenda is the daughter of Roland and Christy Lewellen and the granddaughter of Norma Lewellen and the late Albert Lewellen of rural Oswego.

The county commissioners appointed alternates for the Kansas Association of Counties (KAC) at Monday’s commission meeting. The first alternate will be Lonie Addis and second will be Brian Kinzie.
The Juvenile Justice Authority lease was renewed on the building used by Dr. Murphy.

Scott and Regina Riley opened their 4,000 sq. ft. Oswego Fitness Center at 1025 Commercial on April 4. Just six weeks later, the store caught on fire due to an electrical short. The Center was blackened with smoke, and water damage rendered it a complete mess.
This did not discourage Scott and Regina. They went to work to clean up the mess and repair the damage caused by the fire.

Oswego Football and Girls Basketball Coach Andy Fewin has been selected by the Kansas State High School Activities Association to be a featured speaker at their annual conference, Aug. 5-7, in Topeka.
Fewin took over the football reins at Oswego High School last year to rebuild a struggling program for the school. The move seems to be paying off as the Indians last year posted their first six-win season since 1992. Fewin’s conference topic is aptly entitled “Building a Program… Back Home!” He will speak Friday afternoon.

Cecilia Eisenbrandt, Alyssa and Abigail Gharmalkar enjoy popcorn, sno cones and hot dogs last Saturday to conclude Kids Week, held at the Oswego Assembly of God. Labette County Fair week officially got underway this week with the clothing revue in Altamont on Tuesday and 4-H foods events that are scheduled for Thursday afternoon and evening.
And — get this — temperatures are forecast to be moderate, not extremely hot as experienced most years.
Most of fair is slated to begin Sunday, July 26, with events continuing through Saturday, Aug. 1.
