A task force of Oswego and area officials met again last Thursday to discuss the future of the Labette Correctional Conservation Camp facility.
The men’s camp is scheduled for closing after June 30 and this follows the closure of the women’s camp facility on Dec. 30 of 2008.
Task force members are brainstorming various ideas for using the camp facility to attract employment and continue to be a productive asset to Labette County where it has been a minimum security boot camp since 1991. Both camps are victims of a state funding crisis due to a severe downturn in the economy.

TO THE PUBLIC:
If you have an idea for alternative use of the LCCC facilities, call a task force member as soon as possible or come to the June 25 meeting at the camp.

LABETTE AVENUE

Due to the present economic downturn, small urban towns are struggling with more and more of their businesses closing or relocating to larger cities resulting in many vacancies in downtown districts.
