Months of hard work and rehearsals came to fruition on Saturday evening, May 23, when the Music Company from Labette County High School opened on the big stage for “The Legends In Concert” at the Dick Clark American Bandstand Theater in Branson, Missouri.
Fifteen students under the direction of LCHS choral teacher, Randy Blackwell, sang and danced to a nice sized and enthusiastic Memorial Day Weekend crowd.
The Labette County High School show choir was selected through an audition process by “Branson On Stage Live!”, a talent company that brings high school and college performance groups to the “Music Capital” of the Ozarks to open for many of the professional shows that play there.
The high school performers began the day Saturday by visiting The Landing in downtown Old Branson. After checking into their hotel, dinner was enjoyed at McFarlain’s Restaurant.
Then, it was on to the Dick Clark American Bandstand Theater for a run-through of their show which was critiqued by a member of the “The Legends” cast. Thirty minutes prior to the Legends show, the LCHS Music Company offered up their performance which included a variety of musical songs and dance ranging from western to oldies favorites. Music Company enjoyed the following day at Silver Dollar City.
Blackwell stated, “I was very proud of the kids! They worked hard and should be very pleased with how they performed. I would also like to especially thank the great number of parents that traveled down to Branson to watch their kids.”
Blackwell also mentioned that he was very appreciative of the aid and assistance of LCHS principal, Marty Anderson. “Mr. Anderson was very supportive throughout the entire process and I know we could not have done it without his help,”
