Administrators of the Labette Correctional Conservation Camp at Oswego are performing final tasks as they look at a closing date of June 30.
Administrator Tom Bringle and LCCC program director Terry Edwards gave a report at Monday’s regular meeting of the Labette County Commission saying no more work crews are being sent out. These work crews have always been a helpful resource for local communities and civic organizations for performing manual labor tasks.

Art Ferguson of  rural Oswego is starting a new line of products. Art’s Wood Shop and Saw Mill of Oswego  is located at 14009 Scott Road.
Living in Vail, Ore., for over five years, Ferguson has been doing woodwork for 10 to 12 years and also farmed. He made violin cases for a year and a half and owned a fruit farm in California for 14 years.

A total of 210 students participated in the Labette County 16th Annual Basketball Camp last week at the Labette County High School gymnasium.
This year there were 109 boys total. In grades first through third there were 19; fourth through sixth grades 33; seventh and eighth grade 19 and 38 high school age participating.
Girls had 101 total campers.In grades first through third there were 17; fourth through sixth grades 28; seventh and eighth grade 25 and 31 high school age participating.

The staff of Labette Avenue would like to announce a new “Summer Fruit Salad Contest” that will be held now through June 26. The winner will be announced on Wednesday, July 1.
You may enter by sending your favorite fruit salad recipe on a card with your name and address and phone number on it. There will be a bowl for you to drop your entrant cards at the Labette Avenue office in downtown Oswego, 711 Fourth Street.

Alea Blackburn, Loren Lay, Deja Wilson and Taylor Albertson placed first in the Gavin Carsons 3-on-3 tournament in their age group held Saturday, May 30 at LCHS. The girls are from Bartlett Grade School.

The second annual Gavin Carson 3-on-3 memorial basketball tournament was held Saturday, May 30 at the LCHS gym. There were a total of 26 teams with over 100 players participating in the tournament.

Months of hard work and rehearsals came to fruition on Saturday evening, May 23, when the Music Company from Labette County High School opened on the big stage for “The Legends In Concert” at the Dick Clark American Bandstand Theater in Branson, Missouri.
Fifteen students under the direction of LCHS choral teacher, Randy Blackwell, sang and danced to a nice sized and enthusiastic Memorial Day Weekend crowd. Read more
