A “Oswego Fitness Fire Relief Fund” has been opened for the Oswego and area communities to help out Scott and Regina Riley.

The Oswego Chamber of Commerce has set up a bank fund at the Labette Bank for the Oswego Fitness, that received extensive smoke damage last Wednesday, due to a electricity short in a treadmill. Read more

Gloomy faces prevailed on Monday as Labette County Commissioners heard a final report on the Labette Correctional Conservation Camp.

Final — because the Kansas Department of Corrections has issued a closure order for the men’s camp, closing it only six months after officially shuttering the women’s camp facility in Oswego.

The last graduation at the camp will be held June 9. Read more

The Board of Education of Labette County USD 506 held its regular monthly meeting at 8 p.m., Monday, May 11 at the Board of Education office in Altamont.

Jennifer Mathes led the board in prayer.

Dr. Stockton gave a follow-up on the April board meeting and the May board retreat.

The Class of 2009 at Chetopa High School will graduate during commencement exercises on Sunday, May 17, at 4 p.m. in the new gymnasium.
Twenty-two seniors are listed to receive their diplomas.
Photos of all seniors will be printed in next week’s edition (May 20) of Labette Avenue.
Eighth graders at Chetopa Junior High School will graduate on Sunday evening, May 17, with commencement exercises set for 6 p.m.
