Delbert W. Johnsonjohnsonwebobit

OSWEGO—Delbert W. Johnson, 70, of Oswego, Kan., passed away Wednesday, May 6, 2009, at St John’s Regional Medical Center in Joplin, Mo.

A memorial celebration will be held at 1 p.m., Saturday, May 9, at the Labette Baptist Church in Labette with Pastor Tom Heflin officiating. Memorials may be made to the Labette Baptist Church or the Gideons International with the Murdock Funeral Home, 203 Illinois, Oswego, KS 66725, acting as custodian. Delbert was born Sept. 29, 1938, in Lead Hill, Ark., the son of Robert Wayne and Dora Delpha (Warren) Johnson. He graduated from Labette County Community High School in 1956. He enlisted in the U.S. Air Force in 1957 and was a hydraulic specialist. He was discharged in 1961.

Delbert worked for several years as an aerospace engineer on the Apollo Project at Cape Canaveral, Fla. He  graduated from Pittsburg State University in 1973 with a bachelors degree in  business administration and worked for Shelter Insurance Company for about 20 years as a claims adjuster.

He was a grand storyteller who enjoyed laughter. He loved his family, church, friends, auctions, traveling, fishing, hunting and water sports. He was an active member of the Labette Baptist Church in Labette, Kan.; The Ecumenical Men’s Prayer Breakfast Group, The  VFW,  The Elks Lodge, and Parsons Masonic Lodge AF&M.

Delbert was preceded in death by his parents and is survived by  companion, Brenda Willis of Oswego; two daughters, Deborah N. Johnson of Torrence, Calif.; Jayne Watson and husband Colin of Hermosa Beach, Calif.; a son, James Johnson of Panama City, Fla.; five grandchildren, Michael Barnett of Panama City Beach, Fla.; Chad Patrick Henry of Lancaster, Calif.; Karl Heindel of Torrance, Calif.; D. Ryan Hodge of Valencia, Calif.; ghree great-grandchildren, Cameron Patrick Henry, Trey Michael Barnett and Nicholas Willis of Oswego; one brother, Jim Johnson of Altamont; two sisters, Delpha Bryant of Cherryvale; and Roberta Wren of Owasso, Okla.; three step-daughters and a step-son; numerous nieces, nephews and extended family.

Jack E. Jones

DALLAS, Texas—Jack E. Jones, 80, of Dallas, Texas, died peacefully Saturday, May 2, 2009, at his home.

Internment services were held Tuesday, May 5, at Restland Memorial Park, and a memorial service was held at First United Methodist Church of Richardson. In lieu of flowers, the family requests donations be made to First United Methodist Church Richardson, 503 N. Central Expressway, Richardson, Texas.
Jack was born Oct. 3, 1928, in Oswego, Kan.

He is survived by two daughters, Debbie Warrick and husband Gary; and Robin Kelly and husband Pat; three grandsons, Chris Kelly and wife Lisa, Gary Warrick Jr., and Scott Kelly; a brother, Jerry Jones; brothers and sisters-in-law, Cicero Daniel and wife Mary; Betty Jean Donlinger and husband Bill; and Bob Daniel and wife Paula; and many nieces and nephews.

Preceding him in death were his loving wife of 54 years, Mae Jones, and grandson Craig Kelly.

Harold Glenn Brooner

COLUMBUS—Harold Glenn Brooner, 88, of Columbus, Kan., died Sunday, May 3, 2009.

Memorial services will be at 11 a.m., Thursday, May 7, at Murdock Funeral Home, Columbus. Burial will be in Fort Logan National Cemetery, Denver, Colo.

Howard Dale Johnson

COLUMBUS—Howard Dale Johnson, of Columbus, Kan., died Sunday, May 3, 2009.

Services will be at 2 p.m., Thursday, at Simpson Funeral Home, Columbus. Burial will be in Park Cemetery, Columbus. Visitation will be from 6:30 to 8 p.m. Wednesday at the funeral home.

Addison Lee Vanderpool

McCUNE—Addison Lee Vanderpool was stillborn at 10:10 p.m., Thursday,   May 7, 2009 at the Mt. Carmel Regional Medical Center in Pittsburg, Kan.

She was the daughter of Kevin Vanderpool of Labette City, and Nichole Gray of McCune.

Additional survivors include maternal grandparents, Wally and Shelly Gray of Woodstock, Ill.; paternal grandparents, Robert Vanderpool and Barbara Dunn of Labette City;  aunts and uncles, Carmen Gray, Tony and Doni Gray all of  McCune, Kris Vanderpool of Oswego, Kent and Kody Vanderpool both of Labette City; maternal great-grandparents, Sharon Gray of Oswego and Darlene Call of Miami, Okla.; paternal great grandparents, Bud and Bertha Dunn of Chetopa, Kan., and Raymond and Charlene Collins of Labette City; and a cousin, A. J. Gray of McCune.

She was preceded in death by a maternal great grandfather, Wallace Gray, Sr.

Graveside services will be 10 a.m., Monday, May 11, at the Oswego City Cemetery with Rev. Dennis Johnson officiating. Burial will follow. Family and friends are requested to meet at the cemetery for the services. Condolences may be left at www.bathnaylor.com. Arrangements are under the direction of Bath-Naylor Funeral Home 522 S. Broadway, Pittsburg, KS.

Chad E. Phillips

PARSONS—Chad E. Phillips, 38, of Parsons, Kan., died Saturday, May 9, 2009, at the home of his brother in Parsons. He had been in his usual health and death was not expected.

A memorial service will be held at 10:30 a.m., Wednesday, May 13, at Forbes-Hoffman Funeral Home in Parsons where the family will receive friends immediately following the service. Burial will be in Oakwood Cemetery.

Gertrude M. Wilkinson

PARSONS—Gertrude M. Wilkinson, 87, of Parsons, Kan., died Sunday, May 10, 2009, at Elmhaven East nursing home in Parsons.

Funeral services will be at 10 a.m., Friday, at First Christian Church in Parsons. Burial will be in Memorial Lawn Cemetery. The family will receive friends from 7 to 8 p.m., Thursday, at Forbes-Hoffman Funeral Home in Parsons.

Maynard W. Cook

PARSONS—Maynard W. Cook, 91, of Parsons, Kan., died at 8:30 a.m. Sunday, May 10, 2009, at his home.

Funeral services will be at 2 p.m., Wednesday, May 13, at Forbes-Hoffman Funeral Home in Parsons. Burial will be in South Mound Cemetery. The family will receive friends from 7 to 8 p.m. Tuesday at the funeral home.

David M. Seaferd

COLUMBUS—David M. Seaferd, 50, of Columbus, Kan., died Friday, May 8, 2009, at Maude-Norton Hospita in Columbusl.

Memorial services will be 7 p.m., Thursday, May 14,  in the Murdock Chapel with Rev. Jim Lewis of the Columbus Christian Center officiating. Visitation will be from 6 p.m. until service time. David’s body has been cremated.
