KANSAS CITY, Kan. — A Parsons man and several others from the Ottawa area have been sentenced to prison after being convicted of leading a southeast Kansas drug ring, Acting U.S. Attorney Marietta Parker said Friday, April 24.
Carlton Coleman, 44, Parsons, received a sentence of 108 months in federal prison, and Steve Logan, 37, of Ottawa, Kan., received a 292-month sentence in federal prison. Angie Logan, 27, Ottawa, Kan., was sentenced to 1 year on federal probation.
Steve Logan, Carlton Coleman and Angie Logan were members of a drug trafficking organization that distributed crack cocaine and marijuana primarily in the Parsons area.
In January 2009, Logan pleaded guilty to one count of conspiracy to
distribute or possess with intent to distribute crack cocaine and marijuana. In his plea, he admitted that in 2005 he began distributing crack cocaine in the Parsons area, relying on other individuals to distribute the drugs to users. As the scope of his drug trafficking increased, he pooled his resources with co-conspirators Tony Washington and Tony Freeman to obtain larger quantities of crack cocaine at cheaper rates.
In the summer of 2006, Logan moved from Parsons to Ottawa, Kan. Freeman made frequent trips to see Logan and obtain cocaine and crack cocaine to be sold in the Parsons area. About the same time, Logan provided cocaine and crack cocaine to other co-conspirators including Carlton Coleman, who distributed the drug to users.
On Jan. 10, 2007, the Ottawa Police Department and Franklin County Sheriff’s Office served a search warrant of at the home of Steve and Angie Logan in Ottawa. They seized marijuana hidden in a gallon-sized plastic bag in a bedroom, scales, $9,000 in cash and a .357 Magnum revolver.
Co-conspirators include:
• Tony Washington, who is awaiting sentencing.
• Tony Freeman, who was sentenced to 120 months in federal prison.
• Carol Boyce, who was sentenced to 110 months in federal prison.
• Elton Simmons, who is set for sentencing June 2, 2009.
• Robert Hardridge, who is set for sentencing April 28, 2009
This case was investigated and prosecuted as part of Operation Little Big Man, an Organized Crime Drug Enforcement Task Force project that has generated dozens of convictions in cases of drug trafficking, armed robberies, shooting, kidnaping and money laundering in Kansas, Oklahoma and Missouri. Parker commended all the agencies that participated for their work on the cases, including the Ottawa Police Department, the Franklin County Sheriff’s Office, the Parsons Police Department, the Labette County Sheriff’s Office, the Kansas Bureau of Investigation, the Federal Bureau of Investigation, the Internal Revenue Service - Criminal Investigation, the Coffeyville Police Department, and Assistant U.S. Attorney Scott Rask.
