No primary will be needed to decide city and school elections

Candidates filed for city positions and school board offices by last Tuesday’s deadline.
Labette County Clerk Linda Schreppel said the following candidates filed:
USD 504 - Oswego Board of Education: Mark A. Brannin, Kim Kitterman, Steven L. Lewis, Charlotte Merwarth, Lewis “Skip” Riley and Roger Vance all filed for the three open positions.
In USD 505- Chetopa/St. Paul: Five candidates filed for three positions: Dist. 1, Member 4 - Kandi Midgett of Chetopa; Dist. 2, Member 5 - Cindy Johnson and Sandy Krider, both of Chetopa; Dist. 3, Member 6, Mark E. Smith and Patricia Houser of St. Paul.
USD 506 - Three positions will be elected and those filing were: Pos. 4- Kelly Schulze, Parsons; Post. 5, Doyle Dodsworth, Ronda Good and Kyle Hess, all from the Altamont and Mound Valley area;Pos. 6 -  Leon E. Allen of rural Oswego and Jennifer Mathes, rural Bartlett.
Three positions are open on the Labette Community College board of trustees and candidates filing were: Robert E. Brandenburg, Mike Howerter, Wanda Ladage, David Miller and Sophia Zetmeir, all of Parsons.
For Altamont City positions: Chris Allen and Herbert Bath filed for mayor and Glen Bruce, Dru Parlett and Mary Shields filed for the two positions on the council.
In Bartlett, Bob Pursley filed for mayor and there were no filings for the five city council seats
At Edna, Daniel Baker and Kaci Mellen filed for council, leaving one with no filing.
In Labette City, there were no filings.
At Mound Valley, Joe Ybarra filed for mayor and Ken McNickle, Steve Spencer and Allen Winters filed for city council.
In Chetopa, Matthew R. Kirkwood and Shawn A. Shoemaker filed for city council in the First Ward and George W. Huber filed in the Second Ward while Debra R. Crumrine filed for the Third Ward seat.
In Oswego, there are three positions open and those filing for the at-large positions were Glenn Fischer, Ty Lewis and Jane Rea.
The general election will be held April 7 and there will be no primary.
